BALLER MOVE: Add in Deep Leagues
ANALYSIS: Seth Smith is a pretty interesting player to me in the sense that while several of the other Padres players have drastically underperformed (three full-time players hitting under .200!) and failed to meet expectations, Seth Smith has outperformed his expectations by a wide margin. In particular he has crushed the ball during the month of May, leading all players with an insane .439/.529/.842 slash line for the month. He obviously won’t keep these numbers going, but he has previously hit at least .280 with 15 HR in a season twice, which shows he is capable of being a roster-worthy for short periods at a time in deep leagues. Even though his speed hasn’t been apparent, he does have three triples (he has had nine in a full season as well) this month and has stolen ten bases in a season, so he may be able to give you an occasional steal as well. Seth Smith is quietly the hottest hitter in the game right now and is worth an add on that alone, but don’t be surprised if he can have nice value over the long haul as well in very deep formats.
