The year's first major championship is just around the corner, as the golf world is set to once again turn its eyes to Augusta National Golf Club for the 2023 Masters tournament on April 6.
The Masters is, famously, a tradition unlike any other, that is held in a special place of reverence by both golf fans and the world's most elite players. Make no mistake, winning a green jacket is life-changing and a dream of every golfer teeing it up in this year's edition of the tournament.
Winning the Masters gets you a spot in the field for a lifetime, but if you aren't a former champion, this is a very tough field to qualify for. Scottie Scheffler has no such worries, as he earned his spot in the 2023 Masters thanks to his victory in last year's edition.

Scottie Scheffler's Recent Form
You're forgiven if you are experiencing a feeling of deja vu with Scottie Scheffler, as the Texan's start to 2023 has been eerily reminiscent of his blistering start to 2022 when he won four times across the first four months of the year.
Scheffler has already lifted two trophies in 2023 with both coming in elevated events – WM Phoenix Open and THE PLAYERS Championship – against elite competition. He hasn't missed a cut in six stroke-play events this year and has finished T12 or better in each of those starts.
The 26-year-old's biggest strength is just how excellent he is in every facet of the game. Scheffler has no real weaknesses, as he grades out first among this year's Masters entrants in Strokes Gained: Tee To Green across his last 24 measured rounds.
His well-rounded skill set helps him to play at an elite level with impressive consistency and he is currently the No. 1 ranked player in the Official World Golf Ranking.
Scottie Scheffler's Masters Record
The young star's track record at Augusta National Golf Club isn't lengthy but is extremely impressive. Scheffler has made three career Masters starts, never finishing worse than T19. His victory in last year's edition was a lesson in understated dominance.
Scheffler's prodigious length off the tee – he's averaging just over 308 yards per drive this season – allows him to handle Augusta National's 7,545 layout, while his touch on-and-around these famously-undulating greens has been impeccable to this point in his young career. He's played nine of his 12 career Masters rounds under par and a one-over par 73 is his worst career round in the event.
Scottie Scheffler's 2023 Masters Outlook
Even history's greatest golfers will attest that winning major championships isn't easy. That's especially the case when trying to win at Augusta National in consecutive years, as only three players in history (Jack Nicklaus, Nick Faldo, & Tiger Woods) have ever successfully defended their titles at the Masters.
That said, Scheffler comes into his title defense with both the skill set and form needed to pull it off. Augusta National has, obviously, proven to be a tremendous fit for the Texan and he enters the 2023 edition with every facet of his game firing on all cylinders.
While any major champion needs to get a few good bounces to pull off a victory of this caliber, Scheffler has the look of a golfer that will be fighting for green jackets for many years to come.
