Scott Engel's Fantasy Football Draft Rankings: The King’s Updated Analysis

Rachaad White - Fantasy Football Rankings, Draft Sleepers, NFL Injury News

So much has been going on this preseason. Frequent updates of fantasy football rankings have become an essential (and fun) task. Here are my latest fantasy football rankings updates for all positions.

My overall rankings below the analysis are for PPR formats. You can also see my PPR rankings by position, Half-PPR rankings, Standard (non-PPR) rankings, and Superflex rankings as part of the RotoBaller Fantasy Football Season Pass. Enter promo code KING at checkout when you register for an additional discount.

In the rundown below, I focus on players from all positions that I have ranked higher or lower than the FantasyPros Expert Consensus (ECR). The analysis leans to PPR formats.

Be sure to check all of our fantasy football rankings for 2024:

Fantasy Football Draft Rankings: Running Backs Analysis

Kyren Williams, Los Angeles Rams

Higher Than ECR: I have seen and heard many speculative takes that indicate rookie Blake Corum may seriously threaten Williams’ playing time. I don’t think he will be more than a change-of-pace back, as Williams clearly earned the lead role last year.

Corum was brought in to ensure the No. 1 RB does not get overworked, and now provides a solid backup option for the Rams. I don’t expect his role to be larger than that.

Josh Jacobs, Green Bay Packers

Higher: The move to Green Bay will revive the production of the 2022 First-Team All-Pro selection. Jacobs will now be the goal-line finisher for an ascending offense and you can likely draft him as a value RB2 in the fourth round of single-QB format drafts. The Packers wanted Jacobs, the Raiders did not, and he will be an essential part of the offensive attack.

Rachaad White, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Lower: Last season, White tied with Christian McCaffrey for the second-most carries in the NFL and also finished with 70 receptions. But I will not overdraft an RB who rushed for 3.6 yards per carry just based on last year’s volume. In 2023, he also ranked 47th in Breakaway Run Rate and 23rd in Juke Rate among RBs, according to PlayerProfiler.com.

Rookie Bucky Irving will likely cut into White’s total touches, too. I would target the second-year RB just inside the top 20 at his position.

D'Andre Swift, Chicago Bears

Higher: Yes, I know Khalil Herbert has still made his presence known in the preseason. But Swift was the one who was brought in to lead the backfield and will be the main fantasy producer when play starts for real. The ex-Lion and Eagle could come through with the best season of his career so far as a primary ball carrier and receiver out of the backfield to support Caleb Williams.

Tony Pollard, Tennessee Titans

Lower: Tyjae Spears is the upside play from Tennessee, and Pollard has only looked his best in the past as a part-time back. He could get outpaced and outproduced by the promising second-year man, as Spears potentially takes over the larger portion of the timeshare.

Gus Edwards, Los Angeles Chargers

Higher: Let’s not forget that he rushed for 13 TDs last season. Edwards won’t quite reach that number with the Chargers but will be the main goal-line runner for what is expected to be a run-heavy offense under Jim Harbaugh. The former Raven may top the depth chart and produce adequately enough as a runner to merit a later RB3 draft pick.

Jonathon Brooks, Carolina Panthers

Lower: The rookie will miss all of the preseason and the first weeks of the regular season. That means he must adjust to the pro game after the season starts while also getting back into optimum game shape and maintaining confidence in his knee. Rostering Brooks may require a lot of patience to possibly see a payoff until later in the year.

Jaylen Wright, Miami Dolphins

Higher: De'Von Achane and Raheem Mostert do have established fantasy backgrounds as injury risks. If Wright has to fill in for either one at any time, he will fit right in with one of the top offenses in the NFL with his upside and ability to rip off big gainers. If you draft Achane as an RB2, try to angle for Wright as the later handcuff.

Fantasy Football Draft Rankings: Wide Receivers Analysis

Malik Nabers, New York Giants

Higher: I have the Giants rookie ranked just outside the top 15 WRs. Daniel Jones is not a winning NFL QB, yet he will still get the ball enough to Nabers. Jones will turn the ball over and frustrate Giants fans for sure, but he will also lead scoring drives and target his new No. 1 WR very often. Even mediocre QBs can support a good fantasy WR2.

The former LSU star uses good techniques to get open and has a knack for making the difficult catch. Only Marvin Harrison Jr. may have a higher ceiling among rookie WRs.

DJ Moore, Chicago Bears

Lower: I like Moore as a pure NFL WR this year, as he will haul in many important catches for his rookie QB. The trusty veteran has always been a model of reliability for his QBs, and Williams might be a very good one right away. But I am not willing to draft Moore inside the top 25 at WR when Keenan Allen, Rome Odunze, Cole Kmet, and Swift will all demand their share of offensive touches.

Chicago’s top WR will make timely and important plays, but I expect a bump down in fantasy output. I don’t see 90 catches and 1,300 yards being in the range of reachable statistical thresholds again.

Tank Dell, Houston Texans

Lower: I may catch some flak for this, but here I go. Dell was everyone’s favorite sleeper outside of that guy named Puka last season. But he checks in at 165 pounds and the Texans have to pick their spots to let him loose. He should not be on the field for plays like the one last season when Dell suffered a fractured fibula in a crunch of players at the goal line.

Stefon Diggs will still draw defensive respect and is a more ideal No. 2 NFL WR in terms of build. Dell will still provide some spike outings, but I don’t expect him to be statistically dependable. He will operate as an upside WR3 for Houston rather than as a regular target for C.J. Stroud.

Keon Coleman, Buffalo Bills

Higher: There are already published and reported concerns about Coleman’s ability to separate from defenders, but I still view him as a higher-end WR4 because of the friendly opportunity in front of him with the Bills. Curtis Samuel and Khalil Shakir don’t model as true starting NFL WRs, and Coleman can improve as the season progresses. He should be a frequent TD target for Josh Allen.

Ladd McConkey, Los Angeles Chargers

Higher: This is another rookie I like, and you can consider the Chargers offense for a value play or two, as evidenced by the inclusion of McConkey and Edwards in this rundown. Even though the Los Angeles offense may favor the run more than other teams will, when Justin Herbert passes the ball, he might find his rookie WR to be quite reliable.

McConkey has the potential to be a factor in many key passing situations, and has some true PPR promise.

Jalin Hyatt, New York Giants

Higher: He is off the radar of many drafters in seasonal formats, but Hyatt is a WR that I have monitored since last season. He has dangerous deep gears that can help him burn defenders for big plays.

The second-year WR is a fun final round pick if all your other positions are filled out adequately enough. The Giants have obvious QB concerns. This possible splashy playmaker is still worth a late flier. Even putting him in my top 70 WRs is ranking Hyatt ahead of many others.

Fantasy Football Draft Rankings: Tight Ends Analysis

Tyler Conklin, New York Jets

Higher: He has stirred a lot of positive buzz in the preseason, and Conklin can operate as one of the most productive pass-catchers for Aaron Rodgers. Mike Williams is a notorious injury risk, and Malachi Corley may take some time to develop as a regularly productive pro.

With 61 receptions last year, the Jets TE ranked just outside the top 10 at the position despite all of the major QB issues. Working with Aaron Rodgers can help elevate Conklin as a fantasy producer in 2024.

Noah Fant, Seattle Seahawks

Higher: Last year, Fant was part of a crowded TE picture in Seattle. Now Will Dissly and Colby Parkinson are gone, and he will be the Seahawks’ unrivaled No. 1 TE. There are still prominent WRs ahead of Fant for targets, but he could be a quality streamer for some respectable outings and TD potential

New offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb may incorporate the TE more into the flow of the offense this season. If you wait until later to address the position, aim for Fant as a depth pick at TE.
