BALLER MOVE: Start In 12-Team Leagues
POSITIONAL VALUE: RB2
ANALYSIS: Saquon Barkley, like most running backs, has been hit-or-miss for fantasy football this season. The do-it-all offensive weapon has posted five RB1 weeks in 2023, but he's also finished outside the top 32 running backs four times. Given the Giants' offensive struggles, he doesn't have the luxury of a ton of one-yard touchdown runs, so he's dependent on volume and explosive plays.
In Week 16, he'll face a Philadelphia Eagles defense that has surrendered the fewest fantasy points per game to running backs this year. The Eagles are giving up just 71.9 rushing yards and 0.4 rushing touchdowns per game to the position this year. Needless to say, this matchup does not bode well for Barkley and one of the worst offensive lines in the NFL.
All that said, Barkley has been given 15 or more touches in 10 of his 11 games this year. His 20.6 touches per game ranks fifth among all backs. Although running lanes are likely to be scarce in this NFC East bout, he can post double-digit fantasy points with receptions, volume, and a potential explosive play or two.
While he's far from bust-proof in Week 16, he should be started in 12-team leagues as a midrange RB2.
