BALLER MOVE: Draft in mid-to late rounds in all leagues.
ANALYSIS: How is it that the closer on the 2014 World Series Champions is considered a sleeper for 2015? The San Francisco Giants are the San Antonio Spurs of Major League Baseball. That means a sub-par year is to be expected, right?
Santiago Casilla is a small part of this exceptional bullpen filled with loads of talent. The 34-year-old Casilla has posted several great seasons for fantasy owners since coming over from Oakland in 2010. His worst season he posted a 2.84 ERA with a 7-6 record. Those stats would be considered career bests for a ton of relievers.
Manager Bruce Bochy believes in Casilla's ability to retire batters quickly. As a primary member of any bullpen, the ability to keep base runners at bay is essential. Casilla does just that and is bound for 60 IP this year. A safe projection should be 30 saves an ERA around 2.00 and a 3:1 K/BB ratio.
He will have to ward off the likes of Sergio Romo, Jeremy Affeldt, and Hunter Strickland to keep the job. But rest assured that the Giants will find crafty ways to win close games. That means lots of work for the Casilla and lots of positive stats for fantasy owners.
