ANALYSIS: Santiago Casilla moved to the other side of the bay, but his value hasn't gone anywhere. The 36-year-old has notched 11 saves for Oakland and remains in the mix for late inning work. His ratios are inflated from one meltdown against Texas, but he has been solid all season despite carrying a 4.07 ERA. As he's aged, his strikeout rate has only gotten stronger; the last three seasons, current one included, have been his three highest in terms of K%. If there's an area Casilla has always struggled with, it's walks. His 4.44 BB/9 is not actually too high for him personally, so don't expect any gains in WHIP if you roster Casilla. His value lies in save chances and a solid, but not spectacular 9.62 K/9.
Sean Doolittle's return complicates things a bit, as he will also get the occasional save opportunity, but Casilla collected a save as recently as Friday. The team hasn't committed firmly to any one closer this season, so don't expect Casilla's opportunities to completely dry up. Doolittle being a left-hander might work to Casilla's advantage, depending on the circumstances of the game situation.
