ANALYSIS: Initially, this post was going to discuss Matt Ryan as a priority add this week because of the matchup against the Washington Commanders in Week 8. Then this happened.
Sam Ehlinger will make his first career start in Week 8 against the Commanders and all signs point to the second-year quarterback being the starter going forward (Matt Ryan has a shoulder injury) regardless of Ryan's status.
We haven't seen anything of Ehlinger during the regular season, but he did look good during the 2022 preseason (24 of 29 for 289 yards and four touchdowns with zero interceptions). He also provides solid mobility and can be used as an additional rushing threat in the backfield.
Ehlinger will make his first career start against a Commanders secondary that allows 18.6 fantasy points per game to quarterbacks this season, the 10th most in the NFL. Time will tell how much long-term appeal Ehlinger has in fantasy, but he should be added for at least one week thanks to the matchup.
