Analysis: Is there any reason we should be surprised that Sam Dyson is mowing through batters in Texas? At the moment for the Rangers he has a 2.16 ERA, 0.960 WHIP, 2.91 FIP, is allowing just 0.4 HR/9, and just 2.2 BB/9. Last season he was just as incredible with a 1.15 ERA, 0.894 WHIP, and 2.11 FIP. The big difference in value has been saves. Last season Dyson finished with just two, while he has already reached five in 2016 thanks to his new found closer role. He walks very few batters, allows very few HR, and rarely give sup solid contact. Just 18% of balls in play against him are line drives, so his opponent BABIP of .266 is very sustainable and it is also how he has been able to limit his opponents to a stagnant SLG of .314. With 34% availability, everyone who hasn't acted yet needs to act quick, as Sam Dyson may be the sneakiest elite reliever in the game.
