The year's first major championship is just around the corner, as the golf world is set to once again turn its eyes to Augusta National Golf Club for the 2023 Masters tournament on April 6.
The Masters is, famously, a tradition unlike any other, that is held in a special place of reverence by both golf fans and the world's most elite players. Make no mistake, winning a green jacket is life-changing and a dream of every golfer teeing it up in this year's edition of the tournament.
Winning the Masters gets you a spot in the field for a lifetime, but if you aren't a former champion, this is a very tough field to qualify for. Louisiana native, Sam Burns, has no such worries, as he earned his spot in the 2023 Masters thanks to his multiple victories on the PGA Tour.

Sam Burns' Masters Odds
Below are Sam Burns' current odds for winning the 2023 Masters:
- DraftKings Sportsbook: +4000
- FanDuel Sportsbook: +3200
- BetMGM Sportsbook: +3300
Sam Burns' Recent Form
Coming off his best season as a pro in 2022 - a year in which Burns won twice - the Louisiana native opened 2023 in an erratic fashion. He followed a T6 at the WM Phoenix open with back-to-back missed cuts at the Genesis Invitational and Arnold Palmer Invitational.
The talented young star has since regrouped, scoring a sixth-place finish at the Valspar Championship and adding an impressive victory to his growing resume in the recent Dell Match Play. His win against elite competition in Austin showcased the type of upside that Burns possesses.
Burns' skill set is built for the modern game. He averages just over 308 yards off the tee (currently 10th on PGA Tour in Driving Distance) while also being one of the world's best putters (fifth on PGA Tour in Total Putting).
Sam Burns' Masters Record
Still learning the ropes at Augusta National, the 2023 edition will be Burns' second career Masters start. The LSU product struggled in his debut last year, posting rounds of 75-74 to miss the cut.
There's no shame in struggling your first time around the unique confines of Augusta National, as the layout is notoriously tough for first-timers. As Burns grows more comfortable in the coming years, we should see improvement, as he possesses the length off the tee and putting acumen necessary to compete in the Masters.
Sam Burns' 2023 Masters Outlook
Burns presents an interesting case study of recent form vs. course history. His game has continued to trend upward over the last couple of years and he's reached the top-10 in the world from an OWGR perspective. Unfortunately, we have little to go from a course history angle, as he's only logged two competitive rounds at Augusta National and failed to break par in either.
Despite all of his success on the PGA Tour, Burns is a relative newcomer to major championship golf. 2022 was the first year that he actually teed it up in all four majors and he only has 10 career major starts to his credit. For a player this talented, it stands to reason that we'll start to see production in golf's biggest events and it looks as though Burns' game is ready for primetime.
