Ryan Zimmerman will be activated from the DL on Tuesday and play against the Miami Marlins on the road.
The Washington Nationals third and first baseman has been out since early June with plantar fasciitis on his foot. Zimmerman didn’t have the best minor league rehab assignment when he went 1-for-15.
It’s been a down year for the 30-year-old. He has a .209 BA with 5 HR and 34 RBI in 56 games played. It has been the worst of his 11-year career. He has a .282 BA throughout his career, which shows the huge drop off in average. If he’s healthy again, maybe the Nationals will see the Zimmerman of old but he’s been dealing with injuries over the past two seasons.
It’s likey the Nationals are making trade deadline moves because Zimmerman isn’t the only one coming back. Anthony Rendon returned over the weekend while Jayson Werth will be returning on Tuesday as well. Denard Span is still a little bit away but these three sudden returns could go a long way for the Nats to hold onto first place in the NL East.
