ANALYSIS: It's doubtful whether Ryan Madson can be considered the solution to Washington's ninth-inning woes, but he will at least get the chance for the time being. Madson was acquired along with teammate Sean Doolittle from Oakland last week. So far, Doolittle has picked up two saves since the trade while Madson has two holds. It hasn't gone smoothly for Doolittle, however, as he's allowed two runs in his first two innings of work in D.C. Madson's ERA is a full run and a half lower than his counterpart and he's pitched to an excellent 0.80 WHIP with a strikeout per inning this season. Madson also has more closing experience than Doolittle, with 86 career saves under his belt. The Nats are desperate to find a closer that can stick, so a quick hook might be in order if Doolittle blows just one or two saves, making Madson the new closer for the NL East leaders. Even without the saves, Madson's ratios make him worth owning in leagues that utilize multiple RP spots. He is a high-end closer handcuff at the moment who can earn holds and lower your ratios, making him a valuable asset in most fantasy bullpens.
