The rumors had been floating around since his benching, and it finally became official on Tuesday that the Denver Broncos would be moving on from quarterback Russell Wilson just two years after pulling off a monumental trade for the former Seattle Seahawk.
The Broncos went 13-21 with Wilson on the roster, failing to make the playoffs in both seasons. The 35-year-old threw for 6,594 yards with 42 touchdowns and 19 interceptions in Denver. After landing a massive contract and sinking much of Denver’s significant draft capital, the Wilson trade will go down as one of the worst in NFL history.
While Wilson certainly did not play great football in Denver, he showed flashes of his old Seattle self at times this past season and nearly snuck into the playoffs with a late season surge. There is belief that the veteran can still play good football in the right situation and he will likely get another chance to be a starting quarterback in the league, albeit on a much less impactful salary. Where could Russell Wilson land in 2024?

Pittsburgh Steelers
Ever since Ben Roethlisberger’s retirement in 2021, the Steelers have been unsuccessfully searching for a new quarterback. Kenny Pickett has proven that he isn’t the answer but despite suffering from poor quarterback play, this team still managed to make the playoffs in 2023. This roster is in a good spot and adding a quarterback like Russell Wilson could work wonders for Pittsburgh.
New York Giants
New York is certainly a sleeper pick, but why not? Daniel Jones is coming off of an ACL tear and was horrendous in 2023 prior to the injury, and the roster has other holes that would be worthwhile to address with the sixth overall pick. Instead of going after a rookie like J.J. McCarthy to sit behind Jones, why not bring in a veteran quarterback who has proven he can win and draft an elite weapon like Malik Nabers or a cornerstone tackle like Joe Alt at pick number six? This team won a playoff game just two seasons ago - adding Russell Wilson and building up with a good draft class could bring them back to the promised land.
if I had to guess right now with FA QBs
•Russell Wilson: Giants (courting them prior to Denver and too low for QB+DJ deal)
•Kirk Cousins: Falcons (Rams brass wants savvy vet pockey passer)
•Justin Fields: Steelers
•Baker Mayfield: Bucs— kev mahserejian (@RotoSurgeon) March 4, 2024
Minnesota Vikings
Minnesota is an ideal situation for any quarterback to land in this offseason, whether a rookie or a veteran. If Kirk Cousins opts not to re-sign, this job will be coveted and Minnesota will not be picking high enough without a trade (pick 11) to grab a top prospect. They missed the playoffs due to a lack of a backup plan behind Cousins last season - as fun as Josh Dobbs was for a few weeks, he ended up on the bench in favor of Nick Mullens. Going from Jerry Jeudy and Courtland Sutton as pass catchers to Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison, and T.J. Hockenson could revitalize Russell Wilson’s career.
Las Vegas Raiders
Could we see Russell Wilson pack his bags and head to a former divisional rival? It almost makes too much sense. With the Raiders sitting at pick 13, they are too low to grab a top rookie prospect and the long-term answer is nowhere near their current roster. Aidan O’Connell started most games for Las Vegas in 2023 but proved to be nothing more than a low-level game manager. We saw the Raiders go the veteran bridge quarterback route last offseason with Jimmy Garoppolo and while that experiment failed, they could run it back with a more talented, cheap option in Wilson.
Sign Russell Wilson to a veteran's minimum. Aidan O'Connell is your QB2.
