Royce O'Neale is worth considering as a fantasy basketball waiver wire pickup heading into Week 6 of the 2022-23 NBA season.
BALLER MOVE: Add in 14+ Team Leagues
ROSTERED IN: 30% of leagues
ANALYSIS: Not only is Royce O'Neale coming off tipping a Kevin Durant miss against Portland for what ended being the game-winning shot, but that game also marked a new season-high for the starting forward of the Nets.
After signing up with the BK franchise to play basketball in the state of NY this season, O'Neale hit the ground running and has shown some very bright flashes through the first month of play. O'Neale put up his first triple-double last Thursday against Portland finishing that match with an 11-10-11 contribution that also included one block and one 3-point-shot made.
O'Neale has yet to finish a game without a three-pointer this season and is averaging 2+ 3PM per game over 17 games played through Saturday. Truth be told, O'Neale has struggled a bit with shooting, averaging 37/39/71 splits over the first month of the season while hoisting 9.5 FGA and nearly 6 3PA per game.
The volume of shots and his MPG (35+) are so large, though, that O'Neale is one of only 12 players in the NBA currently averaging 2+ 3PM per game along with 4+ RPG, 4+ APG, and 1+ SPG.
The return of Kyrie Irving should take a few shots from his diet but other than that he should retain a starting role while also benefiting from defenses having to put more eyes and effort into covering Kyrie/KD/Ben Simmons.
