One and Done Selections - Travelers Championship

In this feature, our golf staff of Joe Nicely, Spencer Aguiar, Andrew Putters, Owen Vrabel, Matt Miller and Josh Bennett will provide their weekly golf picks every Wednesday. The purpose of this article is to present you with alternative options to consider and hopefully make your selection a much easier process weekly. With that plan in mind, let's get started!

Joe Nicely - Patrick Cantlay

Alternate - Brendan Steele

After a solid, if unspectacular, performance from Xander Schauffele last week at The Country Club, I feel as though I’m running short on time in this year’s OAD contest. With multiple “elevated status” events and three of the year’s major championships in the books, the opportunities for a big payday are quickly evaporating.

As a result, I’ll take aim with Patrick Cantlay this week at the Travelers Championship. The cool Californian comes into the week on the heels of his best performance in a major this year - a T14 at Brookline - and in overall solid form. If we zoom out on Cantlay’s 2022, we find that this is a guy that could very realistically already have three wins in 2022 if a couple of things go his way. I think this week he has a very real chance of lifting a trophy on a golf course where he once shot a round of 60 as an amateur and has recorded four consecutive top-15 results since 2018.

Yearly Earnings - $6,241,540
Yearly Cuts Made - 17/22

Josh Bennett - Seamus Power

Alternate -

Yearly Earnings - $5,243,816
Yearly Cuts Made - 17/22

Spencer Aguiar - Harold Varner III

Alternate - Tommy Fleetwood

Last week's tournament pretty much sums up this season for me. A last-minute switch from Will Zalatoris to Sam Burns might have ended my hopes in the contest, especially since most of the players I have left are now on LIV. With a limited player crop at my disposal, let's get cute and go with Harold Varner III at the Travelers Championship.

Varner is "technically" the second-best upside option I have left on my board of useable choices, and his overall skillset feels like it will play nicely at TPC River Highlands - a venue that will diminish Varner's inaccuracy off the tee but maximize his distance and proximity numbers. We are shooting blindly into the board, but let's hope something sticks during one of these tournaments to give ourselves an outside shot to play spoiler down the stretch.

Yearly Earnings - $7,094,601
Yearly Cuts Made - 20/22

Matt Miller - Si Woo Kim

Alternate -

The PGA Tour season is quickly winding down and I need to make a move in the standings. As a result, I am going to be rolling the dice with Si Woo Kim. Despite Si Woo coming off an uninspiring effort at the US Open, TPC River Highlands is a far cry from Brookline and there's actually a lot to be optimistic about this week.
First and foremost, Kim is a Pete Dye killer. He famously won the Players Championship at Dye's TPC Sawgrass back in 2017. He also won the AMEX in 2021, which wrapped up at The Stadium Course, another Pete Dye design. He ranks second in the field this week in strokes gained total on Pete Dye courses over the last 24 rounds. He has three top-26 finishes at TPC River Highlands alone.
In addition to the Pete Dye design statistics, Kim ranks 16th in the field in strokes gained tee to green over his last 24 rounds. He is also 26th on approach and 2nd around the green over his last 24 rounds. The putter has held him back as of late but as we all know, putting is the most volatile stat on a week-to-week basis. I'm hoping for a decent putting week out of Si Woo and to pull off the long shot call this week in Connecticut.

Yearly Earnings - $5,319,155
Yearly Cuts Made - 16/22

Andrew Putters - Davis Riley

Alternate - Tony Finau

This guy is right around the corner from being a stud. The Davis Riley stock price is on the rise. Four top 10 finishes in his last 9 events. Ball Striking numbers are really good. He has a good all-around game. He just needs to secure his consistency numbers and lookout, people. Davis Riley is a stud!!!! That’s all.

Yearly Earnings - $3,730,636
Yearly Cuts Made - 14/22

Owen Vrabel - Keegan Bradley

Yearly Earnings - $8,877,047
Yearly Cuts Made - 18/22
