RotoBaller PGA: One And Done Staff Picks - Travelers Championship

The PGA RotoBaller staff digs into their One and Done selections for the Travelers Championship. Here are some under-the-radar plays and picks for this week's event.

One And Done Staff Picks Overview

Here at RotoBaller, we are always searching for ways to give our readers the best fantasy sports content possible. With that goal in mind, we are very proud to announce the weekly PGA “One and Done” column will be back for a third season.

In this feature, our golf staff of Joe Nicely, Spencer Aguiar, Andrew Putters and Josh Bennett will provide their weekly golf picks every Wednesday. The purpose of this article is to present you with alternative options to consider and hopefully make your selection a much easier process weekly. With that plan in mind, let's get started!

For an in-depth breakdown of the top DraftKings and FanDuel plays, check out Joe Nicely's weekly Horse For The Course that highlights the best fits for the week's course. And you can also find out who the smart money is on by checking out Spencer Aguiar's PGA DFS: Vegas Report every week. Be sure to also read all of our other top-notch weekly PGA DFS and betting articles to help you win big!

One and Done Selections - Travelers Championship

Joe Nicely - Brian Harman

Alternate - Kevin Streelman

I entered last week needing a shot in the arm to climb back into this contest and Jon Rahm came through with a clutch victory to grab his first major championship and pull me to within shouting distance in the RotoBaller OAD!

There’s still much work to be done, as I continue to stare up at Spencer’s impressive season total. Unfortunately, I don’t enter this week’s Travelers with tons of elite options, as I’ve burned many of my biggest guns in an attempt to play catchup. I (somehow) do still have the defending champion of this event, Dustin Johnson, left at my disposal. While I should probably use him here, I’m - perhaps foolishly - saving him for a specific event just in case I get back into this thing later in the season.

As an alternative, I’ll go with an experienced veteran that’s played well this season and in previous trips to TPC River Highlands, Brian Harman. Harman’s game isn’t flashy, but is nonetheless effective. I love his ability to play fairways-and-greens golf and I believe that’s what will be needed on this week’s Pete Dye layout.

Yearly Earnings -$5,415,175

Yearly Cuts Made - 21/24

Spencer Aguiar - Brian Harman

Alternate - Paul Casey

There is a chance this is where I have overthought the contest and given both Andrew and Josh a free crack at Paul Casey this week, but there is a specific event, one that isn't that hard to figure out if you look into the schedule, of where I think we might get a weaker field that possesses better win equity for the Englishman. Unfortunately, there is no guarantee that he plays the tournament, but he was number one in my model there in 2020 and has found past success at the course in his career.

Still, though, that doesn't quite help us here for the Travelers Championship, but I am looking for a golfer that can provide me with safety and hopefully allow upside to be found in the process. For contests I am behind in, I do like the idea of playing Si Woo Kim, who is ranked number one in my model on Pete Dye tracks, but I am going to roll with Brian Harman in any game I find myself near the lead.

Harman has taken sharp money in pretty much all markets this week, which isn't something I necessarily care about when trying to handicap an event with my math, but it is worth noting that the former Georgia Bulldog possesses the second-best win equity to capture the title, according to Data Golf. The 13 cuts he has made in his last 14 events, which has featured seven of his last eight in the top-19, only enhances the safety he brings to the table to go along with the upside, and it remains my goal to make someone catch fire to beat me down the stretch. With a limited player pool at my disposal, let's roll with the safest option I have left, and save Casey for my mystery event at the end of the season. P.S. - It could be next week, or it could be at the end of the year. I can't tip my hand entirely!

Yearly Earnings - $7,625,943

Yearly Cuts Made - 20/24

Josh Bennett - Paul Casey

Alternate - Abraham Ancer

There are a lot of different ways to go this week, as there are a lot of players coming into this event with good history at this course as well as some good form. As I’ve run with the “don’t overthink it” method for a handful of weeks now, usually there’s one name that REALLY stands out (that I haven’t used yet). This week, not the case, there are three or four names that all feel like great picks to me. Paul Casey is one of those few names, and the reason for using him now is pretty simple. The other names I like tend to play in PGA tour events often, and I believe I’ll be able to use them in future events in fields that look similar to this one. Casey, however, does not spend all his time on the PGA Tour, and when he does, the field strength is usually pretty high. This is the perfect time to roll him out in a field that’s weaker compared to what he’d usually play in, plus he has some excellent history and is playing some of the best golf of his career. He’s racked up a bunch of worldwide top 10’s this year (including a win) and has four finishes inside the top 5 in this specific tournament since 2015. Hoping he will add a fifth top 5 finish this week (maybe even a win?), I have a lot of catching up to do!

Yearly Earnings - $3,778,988

Yearly Cuts Made - 17/24

Andrew Putters - Brian Harman

Alternate - Patrick Reed

We are getting down to the nitty-gritty in this year's “One & Done” at Rotoballer. To tell you the truth it’s time to do a little gambling. We are looking for big risks for big rewards. Brian is a total shoo-in for this week. Ranking in the top half of the field in SG Ball Striking and he is an elite putter. He has had a pretty good year and very good recent form. He has also had success on similar tracks like Harbour Town. I’m looking at what should be a near guarantee top 10 from Brian this week.
