One and Done Selections - The Valero Texas Open
In this feature, our golf staff of Joe Nicely, Spencer Aguiar, Andrew Putters, Josh Bennett, Byron Lindeque and our special guest will provide their weekly golf picks every Wednesday. The purpose of this article is to present you with alternative options to consider and hopefully make your selection a much easier process weekly. With that plan in mind, let's get started!
Joe Nicely - Chris Kirk
Alternate - Si Woo Kim
It's already been an extremely successful 2023 for Chris Kirk, a golfer that won the Honda Classic and logged top-three finishes at both the Sony Open and the AmEx. While I had plenty of DFS exposure to Kirk in those spots, I unfortunately didn’t have the mental wherewithal to have in an OAD capacity for any of those events.
Silver lining…I still have Captain Kirk available to me this week for a Valero Texas Open event in which he’s largely thrived throughout his career. The UGA alum has posted three finishes inside the top eight at TPC San Antonio since 2015 and enters this year’s edition playing perhaps the finest golf of his career
Yearly Earnings - $2,088,156
Yearly Cuts Made - 10/11
Josh Bennett - Rickie Fowler
Alternate - Taylor Montgomery
I’ve been waiting all season to see Rickie fall back closer to the player he’s been the last couple years, but it appears he might have actually figured everything out and is back to being a pretty decent golfer again. So, why not run him out in his last chance to snag a Masters spot which has to be a huge motivator for him this week. He’s in very good form and has a couple decent finishes at Valero in the last few years, so nothing to be concerned about in either of those areas really. Although he appears to be garnishing a lot of love/ownership across most of the fantasy/betting/dfs worlds, I think this is a very boom or bust type of pick just because of the huge pressure on him to play better than everyone else and win to get to the Masters. I’m banking on him being able to play well through that, so I’m feeling pretty confident in the pick this week.

Yearly Cuts Made - 8/11

Spencer Aguiar - Tyrrell Hatton
Alternate - Si Woo Kim
While Byron is wrapping it up with the 'Love Glove' since he doesn't want to get into bed with any of the more prominent players in this field, I have been put in a desperate situation that is requiring me to live dangerously to try and generate some funds for my chase.
It goes without saying that things haven't gone the way I anticipated this year. Minimal payouts and a lack of upside have plagued my season. There is still time to get back on track to salvage a run at this title, although I feel like it needs to occur by taking the top win equity option in the field during these next few chances on the board.
Luckily, Hatton is not a golfer I would have wanted to gain much exposure to this season, and while the hand injury is something I have monitored, my advice to the Englishman is to throw a glove on it and let's get to business.
Yearly Earnings - $1,567,729
Yearly Cuts Made - 8/11
Byron Lindeque - Lucas Glover
We finally had our first whiff in a while and it came at the delicate and daredevilish hands of Jordan Spieth. He must hold the record for the most hole outs on tour that went further in the air than forward. Despite the short game fireworks, he sucked it up against Shane Lowry on Friday, blowing his chances of making it through in a playoff.
This week we are going to turn our attention a course horse that has finishes of T18, 4th, T14 in his last three strolls around the Valero and sits at 180-1 entering the week. He also made the cut at THE PLAYERS and managed to string together at T36 at the Valspar two weeks ago. Not bad form for a golfer who goes by the name of Lucas Glover.
As profoundly bad as Glover has been with the putter of the last few years, I am sure he is extremely proud that in his last three starts at TPC San Antonio, he has not lost strokes putting in any of them, albeit averaging 0.08, 0.09, and 0.11 strokes on the greens. For Glover, that is something to write home about, and is rather exciting after he gained putting at the Players. He will do the majority of his damage from tee to green, which he has done his entire career.
The gloves are off, figuratively and literally, as Glover plays gloveless and now the Ketchup Kings are looking at Lucas to provide the knock out blow in our OAD this week to shoot us up our leaderboards.

Yearly Cuts Made - 10/11
Andrew Putters - Will Update Later!

Mia The Model - Hideki Matsuyama
Alternate -Si Woo Kim

Aggregated Results
One of the significant differences you will notice is that I attached the aforementioned percent weight to each player when I randomized the list for the week. That means an option like Hideki Matsuyama got rewarded for being a better option for our models (which we see with his 11% chance) all the way down to the bottom of our board in Robby Shelton, Nick Taylor, J.J. Spaun, Christiaan Bezuidenhout and Andrew Putnam – five golfers that received 2.5% of the projected pick equity.
We agreed on randomizing the list five times to settle on the name, and Mia has decided she wants to roll with Hideki Matsuyama this week as the selection and Si Woo Kim as the alternate. (All names used previously were removed).
Let us know what you think of her chances this week!
