One and Done Selections - The Travelers Championship
In this feature, our golf staff of Joe Nicely, Spencer Aguiar, Andrew Putters, Josh Bennett, Byron Lindeque and our special guest will provide their weekly golf picks every Wednesday. The purpose of this article is to present you with alternative options to consider and hopefully make your selection a much easier process weekly. With that plan in mind, let's get started!
Joe Nicely - Tommy Fleetwood
Alternate - Russell Henley
I’m a sucker for guys that are coming off hot Sunday rounds. It doesn’t get much hotter than Tommy Fleetwood’s nuclear final-round 63 at LACC, a score that believe it or not, could’ve actually been better. Fleetwood gained a ridiculous 8.2 strokes on Approach in the U.S. Open and he’s now been in the positive column with the irons in an eye-popping 11 of his 12 U.S. starts in 2023.
The knock on Tommy is his inability to actually, yanno, win golf tournaments. It’s a fair enough criticism, as the Englishman can’t quite seem to get over the hump in a PGA Tour event. However, if he stays as consistent as he’s been for the last six months, something is eventually going to break his way. Maybe that happens at this week’s Travelers, an event that rewards accuracy off the tee and precise iron play more than it does power. It should be a nice fit for “Fairway Jesus”, who logged a T13 at TPC River Highlands back in 2019.
Yearly Earnings - $5,110,072
Yearly Cuts Made - 21/22
Josh Bennett - Viktor Hovland
Alternate - Sahith Theegala
A tough pick for me here as I’ve already used many of the guys at the top of the board, and I want to be using some of the elite guys in these elevated events since it means more money in the contest. Viktor is on a run of really good golf right now which is encouraging, the only concern would be that he hasn’t played this particular event much and wasn’t awesome the couple times he played it. Although, he’s a much better golfer today than he was a couple years ago, so those results may not even matter. Regardless, I’m banking on him continuing his very good play as of late and contending here as he’s contended in most other events the last few times out and loading up a large payday to add to my total.

Spencer Aguiar - Jon Rahm
Alternate - Matthew Fitzpatrick
Out of players. Out of time. Out of luck. Welcome to my last hail-mary attempt of the season. I am not sure this is the place on the schedule where I would have been saving Rahm for when things started this year, but it does feel like a sneaky track to use him as an under-the-radar option.
Rahm placed inside the top five of my model for short, TPC and Pete Dye courses, and his first-place rank for birdie or better percentage might be able to sneak a win when everyone is looking elsewhere.

Byron Lindeque - Xander Schauffele
Over here at Ketchup Kings LLC, we have been downgraded from Heinz to Walmart Value status, as we are all over the damn burger, but we just can’t seem to get the entire burger into our mouth without some onion or pickle falling into our lap, as Collin Morikawa finishing T14 just was not enough $$$ to make us feel like we took advantage of a major purse.
This week we are going to lean on the defending champ, Xander Schauffele, who leads the field in proximity from 150-175 yards, which will be where about ¼ of approach shots are hit from this week. That kind of iron play is the sizzle to the sandwich we are desperately in need of here at KK LLC.
He is also the defending champ, so he is comfortable on these greens and has been putting together some really impressive results recently, with 9 consecutive finishes inside the top-25, while 6 of those were top-10s. If he doesn’t win, we are at least assured some sort of reasonable return on our investment, which new management is insisting we “reach higher for”. If Xander can add a 2nd-patty to his Travelers truffle burger, things would start to ramp up for the Ketchup Kings with the end of the season not too far away.

Aggregated Results
One of the significant differences you will notice is that I attached the aforementioned percent weight to each player when I randomized the list for the week. That means an option like Xander Schauffele got rewarded for being a better option for our models (which we see with his 15% chance) all the way down to the bottom of our board in multiple names ranking for 5% of the pie.
We agreed on randomizing the list five times to settle on the name, and Mia has decided she wants to roll with Max Homa this week as the selection and Corey Conners as the alternate.
Let us know what you think of her chances this week!
