One and Done Selections - The Open Championship
In this feature, our golf staff of Joe Nicely, Spencer Aguiar, Andrew Putters, Josh Bennett, Byron Lindeque and our special guest will provide their weekly golf picks every Wednesday. The purpose of this article is to present you with alternative options to consider and hopefully make your selection a much easier process weekly. With that plan in mind, let's get started!
Joe Nicely - Brooks Koepka
Alternate - Robert McIntyre
Put simply, I’ve gotta use Brooks at some point this year, and this represents my last chance. Do I wish I’d pulled the trigger at Oak Hill? Of course. However, this is by no means a bad option, as Koepka comes in somewhat under the radar despite playing beautifully in 2023’s majors and in previous Open Championships.
The Florida native came up on the European Challenge Tour and that links experience has paid dividends in his quest for the Claret Jug. Koepka has recorded top-10 finishes in half of his career starts in the Open. I’m not a betting expert like Spencer and Byron, but I grabbed Brooksy at 20-1 earlier this week simply because it seems like a disrespectful number. I hope someone told Koepka the odds, as he seems to player better when he’s angry.
Barracuda: Mark Hubbard
Alternate - Grayson Murray
Yearly Earnings - $6,942,366
Yearly Cuts Made - 25/27
Josh Bennett - Cameron Smith
Alternate - Matthew Fitzpatrick
Back to back Open winner… why not? No matter how you look at it, Cam is in some seriously good form attempting to defend his title. He won the last LIV event and is pretty much a top 10 lock in all of those events, plus a 4th at the US Open and 9th at the PGA. His game is just good, you don’t need any stats or anything else other than his results to tell you that. World class players show up in the biggest events, I see no reason Cam won’t do that this week as well.
Barracuda: Sam Bennett
Alternate - Sam Stevens
Yearly Earnings -$7,549,104
Yearly Cuts Made - 23/27

Spencer Aguiar - Rickie Fowler
Alternate - Talor Gooch
Things have gotten so bad that I somehow don't even have players left...I will take a swing on Rickie Fowler since he is technically the only top 10 golfer in my model that I can even choose.
Barracuda: Stephan Jaeger
Alternate - Keith Mitchell
Yearly Earnings - $5,909,121
Yearly Cuts Made - 16/27
Byron Lindeque - Rory McIlroy
Wyndham Clark was a little disappointing last week in OAD and for my T20 bet on him, finishing T25 and missing placings by a point. The Ketchup Kings are limping home, but we have an ace in the hole.
Sitting at $9.2M on the season, $4.6M of that total has been derived from Scottie and Rahm at the Masters and Memorial. I want to holster Rory till the tour Championship, but I am not sure our contest goes that far down the road, so we will use him here. I am convinced he finally wins his first major in a long time upon his return to the very course he won his lone Claret Jug in 2014.
His ability to carry his drives over pot bunkers this week widens fairways for him which should open up a lot more birdie opportunities for him having a few flick wedges into holes that others may be hitting 7 irons into because they had to lay up short of the treacherous fairway bunkers. That is the biggest reason why I am all in on Rory this week, who has also seen his form make a 180 since the Wells Fargo, currently playing some exceptional golf!
Barracuda: Chez Reavie
Yearly Earnings - $9,318,186
Yearly Cuts Made - 24/27
Mia The Model - Xander Schauffele
Alternate - Talor Gooch
Byron T20
TeeOff T20

Aggregated Results
One of the significant differences you will notice is that I attached the aforementioned percent weight to each player when I randomized the list for the week. That means options like Cameron Smith and Rory McIlroy got rewarded for being a better option for our models (which we see with their 20% chance) all the way down to the bottom of our board in multiple names taking up 2.5%of the pie
We agreed on randomizing the list five times to settle on the name, and Mia has decided she wants to roll with Wyndham Clark this week as the selection and Rickie Fowler as the alternate.
Let us know what you think of her chances this week!
Barracuda: Keith Mitchell
Alternate - Stephan Jaeger
Yearly Earnings - $10,943,345
Yearly Cuts Made - 22/27
