One and Done Selections - The Masters
Joe Nicely - Justin Thomas
Alternate - Jordan Spieth
It's been a crazy and horrible year in tons of ways. However, we get a true bright spot of sunlight poking through the dark clouds this week, as a Masters in November is about as close to a "sports rainbow" as we're ever gonna get! With all the madness that's been going on in both the world and sports, I wasn't sure if we would get to see Augusta National in 2020, so this event certainly serves as real "Chicken Soup For The Golf Fan's Soul".
Obviously, we've seen some out of the ordinary things in golf this year, with the schedule shake-up being one of the most prominent changes. Because of the uncertainty surrounding both the schedule and this contest, I wanted to keep an "Ace in the Hole"...a player that I would have available to me and feel great about playing on any course, in any conditions, against any field.
I know Spencer had a similar strategy and has been saving Bryson DeChambeau for this week specifically. It feels like that scene in The Avengers when Cap gives Hulk permission to SMASH, only it's Aguiar slyly smiling as he prepares to unleash Bryson and his 400-yard drives on me. Unfortunately, all I'm able to do in this situation is try to evacuate the city and limit the damage. While there's a good chance that Bryson ragdolls both me and this field, at least I'm not completely defenseless, because even though I don't have a Hulk...I do have a JT.
Justin Thomas resembles Ant-Man more than the Incredible Hulk, but the little guy out of Kentucky has a larger-than-life game that has no real weaknesses, outside of a putter that can go cold at inopportune times. He's yet to completely crack the Masters code, but a career-best T12 last year indicates he's trending in the right direction. Thomas has two wins in 2020 and arguably could (or should) have at least double that amount if not for the aforementioned frosty putter. JT might not enter this week with the hype of Bryson, but it's not a stretch to say that he's the better overall player.

Spencer Aguiar - Bryson DeChambeau
Alternate - Adam Scott
Joe deserves full credit for turning this into a runaway contest after we returned from the COVID-19 stoppage. It has been one big performance after another, and the fat lady is singing so loudly into my ear that I can no longer focus.
In retrospect, I might have Chinese-checkered myself while I thought I was playing chess. I took Jon Rahm at the U.S. Open in a last-minute switch away from Bryson DeChambeau - only to see the American exit Winged Foot victorious. I have a feeling I might have flip-flopped the duo here again at the Masters, but there is not a lot I can do about that now. These contests usually don't need much more than a small swap somewhere to change the landscape of the proceedings, and while I was on the right track with where to deploy my big guns, it didn't quite come to fruition the way I envisioned.
The best I can hope for now is that DeChambeau blitzes the field in Hulk-like fashion, creating an opportunity for me to steal this contest over the final two events. However, I am not even sure a victory will be good enough to get the job done. Joe saving Justin Thomas for the Masters is quite the power move that equates to a checkmate situation, but it doesn't mean I will concede anytime soon. This is AMERICA! Recounts will be ordered for all past events, starting with the zero dollars I have on record with Tony Finau at the API. I find it highly unlikely that the man who earns a payday every week didn't accumulate anything towards my total.

Josh Bennett - Tiger Woods
Alternate - Bernhard Langer
This might be more of a fan play than it is a strategy play. I did save Tiger for this specific event throughout the year, but I don’t know if I’m convinced he’s in the right shape in his game to do it. However, it’s Tiger Woods. Best player of all time and shreds Augusta almost every time he plays. If anyone can jump right back into top form for one weekend, it’s Tiger. He hits it far enough to have an advantage still, he’s the best iron player of all time, and he knows the areas on and around the green better than anyone in the field. It wouldn’t surprise me one bit if he won this week again, and it shouldn’t surprise you either!
