One and Done Selections - The BMW Championship
In this feature, our golf staff of Joe Nicely, Spencer Aguiar, Andrew Putters, Josh Bennett, Byron Lindeque and our special guest will provide their weekly golf picks every Wednesday. The purpose of this article is to present you with alternative options to consider and hopefully make your selection a much easier process weekly. With that plan in mind, let's get started!
Joe Nicely - Hideki Matsuyama
Alternate - Cam Young
The Japanese superstar heads to the BMW Championship with a full head of steam following a beautiful final-round 65 last weekend in Memphis, a score that vaulted him into the top 50 of the FedEx Cup Points Standings and kept his postseason hopes alive.
I’ll gamble on Matsuyama staying hot this week on an Olympia Fields layout where he posted an impressive T3 in the 2020 edition of the BMW. Not all players are built to handle a golf course like they’ll face this week, but ‘Deki has repeatedly proved throughout his career that his prospects actually go up with the difficulty of the layout. His elite ball striking should once again pay dividends on this major-like Olympia Fields design.
Yearly Earnings - $8,281,803
Yearly Cuts Made - 30/32
Josh Bennett - Collin Morikawa
Alternate - Max Homa
I’m shocked I held onto Collin for this long, given he’s usually one of the first names I look at every week in DFS. Year-long form just wasn’t up to his normal standards of the past, but really he hasn’t been playing all too terribly. We know he’s one of the best iron players on tour, and I think combining that with a good off-the-tee game (really good recently), especially with accuracy, will be very helpful this week. Landing areas are pretty narrow with a lot of bunkering and tree trouble, I think a guy that drives it like Collin will have a great chance to be at the top of the leaderboard on Sunday. Another encouraging thing about his game recently is his putting, he appears to have maybe figured something out, so hopefully he has one more week of at least gaining strokes putting in him before he falls apart on the greens again. We are due to see major-winning form from him soon, hopefully that kind of form shows up for me this week.
Yearly Earnings -$8,350,416
Yearly Cuts Made - 26/32

Spencer Aguiar - Wyndham Clark
Alternate - Justin Rose
I keep comping Olympia Fields to a U.S. Open venue (probably why it has held that event in the past), but let's go with the reigning U.S. Open champion in Wyndham Clark.
The recent form leaves a ton to be desired after losing over 11 shots with his ball striking in Memphis, but I will buy back in at a venue that suits his distance and short game.
Yearly Earnings - $6,240,245
Yearly Cuts Made - 20/32
Byron Lindeque - Hideki Matsuyama
Viktor Hovland’s 38 on the back 9 on Sunday was really disappointing, as he fell from T3 all the way to T13, which hurt in DFS, Reignmakers, T10 market and OAD $$$. Tough sledding for the Ketchup Kings.
There are not a lot of courses I would play this perennially bad putter at, but with the 5th best bogey avoidance numbers in the field, Hideki Matsuyama will not be punished for a birdie % that sits outside the top-30. His iron play recently has also found itself in the top 5 in this field, and his play out of the rough has always been a strength of his game, which most golfers will be hacking out of with about a 50% driving accuracy rate in 2020.
His around the green play baseline is 9th in the field, which will help save those pars this week and despite having a lack luster year with hardly any top-10 finishes, he ranks 15th in strokes gained on hard courses. This is an awesome opportunity to lean on Hideki’s strengths at a course that should play the way that suits his game best.
Yearly Earnings - $10,281,258
Yearly Cuts Made - 28/32
Mia The Model - Jason Day
Alternate - Rory McIlroy
Byron T20
