One and Done Selections - Genesis Invitational
In this feature, our golf staff of Joe Nicely, Spencer Aguiar, Joe Idone, Matt Miller, Byron Lindeque, Joe Idone and our special guest "Mia The Model" will provide their weekly golf picks every Wednesday. The purpose of this article is to present you with alternative options to consider and hopefully make your selection a much easier process weekly. With that plan in mind, let's get started!
Joe Nicely - Collin Morikawa
Alternate - Sam Burns
It's been a slow start for me this year, so I'm hoping to get things going with Collin Morikawa this week at Riviera. A consummate ball-striker, Morikawa's T2G excellence suits this iconic layout perfectly and his Genesis results of the past two years (T6-T2) tell us as much.
Despite a missed cut at Torrey Pines following an opening-round 67, it feels as though something is brewing for the two-time major champ who won the ZOZO back in October and started 2024 with a T5 at the Sentry. He's simply too talented to keep coming up empty and I look for a win soon either in a "Signature Event" such as this or a major championship.

Spencer Aguiar - Viktor Hovland
Spencer is repping RotoBaller at this week's FSGA conference and won't have an OAD write-up available for Genesis.

Yearly Cuts Made - 5/5
Matt Miller - Patrick Cantlay
It's been a shaky start to 2024 from Patrick Cantlay but there have been some signs of life if you look close enough. Cantlay had three pretty good rounds at the AMEX before a Sunday implosion. He also started the Farmers Insurance Open and Pebble Beach Pro Am off with a low first round before stalling out. Still, his 11th place finish at Pebble Beach two weeks ago was his best result of the season and he now heads to a course that he has had tremendous success at.
Cantlay is first in the field in strokes gained total at Riviera over the last 24 rounds. He has made five straight cuts at The Riv, four of which he has come inside the top-17. Last season he finished third at this event, gaining 13 strokes tee to green.
Do the early season struggles concern me? Not as much as you think. Last season Cantlay entered this event off a missed cut the week prior at the WM Phoenix Open. He had finished 26th at the AMEX and 16th at the Sentry. It was a fairly pedestrian start a year ago as well and Cantlay did what he always does, showed up and performed well at the Genesis.

Byron Lindeque - Scottie Scheffler
Burns Baby Burns! Sam Burns finished T3 to get our first solid contribution to our OAD balance in 2024. Hoping to keep the after burners on with the guy who finished in T3 alongside him, Scottie Scheffler.
I would imagine, despite being the favorite to win this week, Scheffler will likely be deployed by most people at Augusta, The Players, Bayhill where he is clearly a great fit at those courses. With the likes of Max Homa, Collin Morikawa, Xander Schauffele, Justin Thomas getting a lot of clicks this week as they have phenomenal course history here and seem a little more “disposable” than Scottie who people will want to keep in their back pocket for a bit.
Scottie Scheffler is a tee-to-green beast, which is not breaking news and we all know that he suits just about any course well. What I am particularly most excited about Scottie this week, is the fact that he enters the week for the first time in three years, not having won the event before. He is about as under the radar as the World No. 1 could be, which is when I think he is most dangerous.
