ANALYSIS: No rookie had a worse year in 2018 than Ronald Jones II. The USC product played in just nine games and ran 23 times for 44 yards (1.9 yards per tote) and only one touchdown. He worked hard in the offseason and was praised by the coaching staff.
In the first game of the 2019 season on 13 carries, Jones quickly topped his rookie yardage on the ground by running for 75 yards (5.8 YPC) while playing 31 percent of the offensive snaps. That was just behind Peyton Barber's usage (36 percent of snaps), but Jones soundly outplayed his backfield counterpart against the 49ers.
Of concern is the fact that Dare Ogunbowale was targeted five times in the passing game, but Jones has the hot hand in this committee approach after Week 1. As long as he stays healthy, the lead role should be Jones' to lose, and Tampa's offense should have much better weeks in the future. His arrow is pointing up and he's worth stashing on your bench.
