The National Football League’s best tight end Rob Gronkowski left last week’s game against the Denver Broncos with a very painful knee injury. Gronk owners gasped as they saw him writhing on the ground in considerable pain. Further exams showed no long-term knee damage and Gronk released an uninterrupted video earlier in the week claiming his week-to-week status. As Gronk owners patiently wait for his return, fellow tight end Scott Chandler will look to fill in this big role in the New England Patriots offense. Chandler should be an immediate pick-up in your fantasy football league if he is somehow still available.
In a very short fill-in role last week against the Broncos, Scott Chandler made his presence felt as he caught five passes for 58 yards and one touchdown. He was targeted 11 times which was a season high. It is very clear that quarterback Tom Brady loves to utilize his tight ends in the Patriot offense. Although Chandler does not possess the same physical abilities and play-making potential as Gronk does, he will most certainly become one of Brady’s main targets if Gronk is unable to play this week.
The New England Patriots wide receiving corps has been decimated with injury’s this year. Julian Edelman is still hurt and Danny Amendola was limited at Wednesday’s practice, making Brandon Lafell Brady’s next-best option at wide receiver. Being that Lafell hasn’t been much of anything this year, one can assume that this should bode well for Chandler in Week 13 at home against a not so great Philadelphia Eagles squad. Brady will look to target the big tight end early and often. Look for some big numbers from the NFL's newest starting tight end as Chandler should be considered a TE1 for Week 13.
