ANALYSIS: Dallas displayed an ugly split between their two running backs in Week 1’s win over Cleveland, with Ezekiel Elliott rushing 10 times and Rico Dowdle toting the rock eight times.
Neither running back was particularly efficient, meaning the two will likely split again in Week 2.
Dallas Cowboys rushing against the Cleveland Browns:
- Ezekiel Elliott: 10 carries, 40 yards, 4 YPC, 1 TD
- Rico Dowdle: 8 carries, 26 yards, 3.3 YPC
- CeeDee Lamb: 3 carries, 25 yards, 8.3 YPC

Dowdle rushed for 26 yards on his eight carries and added a reception for six yards. His role in the offense does not appear to be too much more than it was a season ago when he took some of the load off of Tony Pollard.
Dowdle should be rostered in all twelve-team leagues due to the scarcity of options at the running back position. If something were to happen to Elliott, he would enter RB2 territory with an uptick in volume. For now, he is a borderline flex play and is best served as a bench or stash option.
