Richard Rodgers (TE, PHI) - Week 8 Waiver Wire Pickups

ANALYSIS: The writing was on the wall for the Eagles when it comes to the tight end position practically since the start of the season. The first problem came when Dallas Goedert had to left the third game of the year midway through it, getting to the IR. The second was an underperforming Zach Ertz through that time and not recovering his fantasy-shape the weeks after that. Then, to keep piling up on problems, Ertz went down injured too in Week 6 and has hit IR too. With not many more warm bodies around, it was Richard Rodgers turn at the TE spot.

The thing with Rodgers is that he had already played in every game of the season except the second one. The playing time had been low (no more than 33 snaps prior to Week 6 when he had to replace Ertz mid-game). Even with that, though he reached a mid-not-good-not-at-all-great 6.5 and 6.1 PPR points in W4 and W6 catching 6 of 7 targets for 66 yards in those two matches combined.

Playing the clear TE1 role this past Thursday, though, Richard Rodgers proved his value with a 14.5-performance in which he finished 8/6/85, finished second to Travis Fulgham (11) in targets, but led all Eagles in receptions and yards while playing 96% of the 72 team's snaps (69).

Rodgers isn't a no. 1 option at the position, and Goedert is already eligible to come back from IR. Ertz has gone there, but he will eventually come back too (although Philly wanted to trade him prior to his injury, per reports). All that being true, Rodgers will be a TE2 in Philadelphia for at least three more weekends and two games (PHI is on its bye in a couple of weeks). Add Rodgers if you're streaming the position and/or are part of a deeper league, as he's at least a weekly TE2 with upside to finish TE1 if Goedert misses another game.
