Analysis: Richard Rodgers could have to carry the load at tight end for Green Bay for another week if Andrew Quarless does not make his expected return off temporary IR. Head coach Mike McCarthy had nothing new to report on Quarless, who has been out since Week 3 and did not practice Tuesday.
With or without Quarless, Rodgers is a touchdown-dependent play only. Big and slow with decent hands, Rodgers has averaged 7.3 yards on his 36 catches. He has managed to rack up five scores in the Packers' high-powered attack, including two in a Week 9 loss at Carolina.
That Rodgers is available in only half of all leagues is a testament to the fantasy world's love for Green Bay's offense. But anyone expecting ligit TE1 numbers from the second-year third-rounder is fooling themselves.
This week's opponent is the Bears and they have been surprisingly solid against opposing TEs, averaging just 5.3 fantasy points allowed. That's about what we'd expect from Rodgers.
Unless you're in a very deep league, there should be better options on your waiver wire with a higher ceiling going forward. Hoping for a touchdown and a 10-point ceiling from your TE slot is not a recipe for fantasy success.
