ANALYSIS: At 41 years old, Rich Hill just keeps on chugging along. After allowing four runs in each of his first four starts, the lefty has allowed just three opponents to cross the plate in his five turns since. Perhaps the most encouraging sign is that he's logged at least six innings in four of those five games. Given his age and injury history alongside the Rays' general philosophy, it's been a pleasant surprise to see Hill with a more traditional starter's leash.
This recent run of success has salvaged his overall ratios (3.89 ERA, 1.07 WHIP), and his peripherals have rebounded nicely from last season's mediocre showing in Minnesota. It's fair to wonder how long Hill can remain upright - he's topped 140 innings only once in his career, and hasn't cracked 100 since 2018 - but the innings he does provide will be quality. If nothing else, he's an excellent streamer for his next start against the light-hitting Royals on Tuesday.
