BALLER MOVE: Target Around ~23 Overall
CURRENT ADP: ~31
ANALYSIS: New England Patriots running back Rhamondre Stevenson had a breakout sophomore campaign in 2022 after being selected in the fourth round of the 2021 NFL Draft. Stevenson ran for 1,040 rush yards on 210 carries and caught 69 passes for 421 yards last year.
With James Robinson cut this offseason, the third-year back is expected to carry the bulk of the workload again in 2023. Pierre Strong Jr. and Ty Montgomery will fight for touches with Stevenson in the New England backfield but neither presents much of a challenge.
Stevenson started the 2022 season as the backup to Damien Harris so he wasn't drafted in most 10-12 team leagues. However, he soon found himself on fantasy rosters. The former Oklahoma product had 10 straight double-digit PPR fantasy performances and six top-10 running back finishes.
In 2022, Stevenson finished as the RB7 in PPR formats, averaging 14.7 PPR points. He was an RB1 on fantasy rosters and contributed on the ground and through the air. The Patriots running back also had six games over 20 fantasy points.
This year, Damien Harris left in free agency, and James Robinson – who signed a two-year deal this offseason – was cut in June. The Patriots also selected zero running backs with 12 picks in the 2023 NFL Draft.
Stevenson was a fantasy superstar in his second season, and that shouldn't change in 2023. He averaged 4.95 yards per carry last year, is an excellent pass catcher, and remains the focal point of the offense. That should help him stay on the field for three downs.
Stevenson is more valuable in PPR formats than non-PPR formats, given his upside in the passing game. He had 88 targets last year, and that number should be high again this season. According to PFF, quarterback Mac Jones threw checkdowns at the 10th-highest rate in 2022 (9%) and the eighth-highest rate in 2021 (8.3%). The Patriots running back surely has all the talent to put together a huge campaign in 2023.
