Reggie Bonnafon (RB, CAR) - Week 5 Waiver Wire Pickups

ANALYSIS: Let's make things clear here: Bonnafon is the patch of a patch, so make sure you only acquire him if you can do so for absolutely-freaking-free or pass on him. With Christian McCaffrey down to injury, the Panthers were forced to play Mike Davis as their do-it-all rusher starting in Week 2 when Mike featured in 24 plays and finished with 15.5 PPR points backing up CMC. Bonnafon didn't debut until Week 3, and he played all of... 2 snaps--though somehow he carried the ball two times for 16 yards. Now, look at Week 4 and get amazed.

Well, maybe not amazed, but at least hopeful that he can hold onto the role he played against Arizona this past Sunday. While Mike Davis is the clear-cut go-to tailback of the Panthers (16 carries, 6 touches), Bonnafon played 21 snaps while carrying the ball 10 times for 53 yards (5.3 Y/A to Davis' 5.2) and he was also targeted twice hauling in those two passes for 18 yards and a touchdown!

If he hadn't scored his fantasy points would have dropped below 10, but the TD helped Bonnafon reach 15.1 PPR points this past weekend. His volume won't be otherworldly, but everything points into his direction in terms of being the player poised to give Mike Davis some relief. He's nothing more than a play viable only in really deep leagues as a FLEX if anything, but there's that at least until CMC comes back.

On top of that, Carolina faces a couple of bottom-half defenses against RBs in fantasy points allowed to the position in the next two weeks, so that raises Bonnafon's upside at least a bit.
