Rashod Bateman (WR, BAL) - Fantasy Football Week 8 Waiver Wire Pickups

ANALYSIS: Allow me to start giving you some bad news before moving into what makes Rashod Bateman a sound WW target this week. First of all, Bateman is a rookie. Second, Bateman is definitely not the WR1 of the Ravens offense. Third, Baltimore is going on a bye this week. Okay, now, let's focus on what we can get from Bateman instead of the "negatives" highlighted right there.

Bateman has played just two games this season after getting into it recovering from injury. And call me crazy, but he's been far from bad. His debut was a little bit rough two weeks ago, though he already got six looks from QB Lamar Jackson and caught 4 of those 6 targets for 20 yards, not bad for those in deep PPR leagues. Now, Bateman was much better this past weekend getting 6 targets once more and catching 3 of them for a tasty 80 yards and a total 11.0 PPR points against Cincy.

Those are not fantastic fantasy outcomes, I know. But Bateman is in possession of the WR2 role now only with Marquise Brown (reasonably) above him. Bateman hasn't kicked the ground running like fellow rookie Ja'Marr Chase, that's for sure, but he hasn't been bad and he should keep growing his game as the season advances. If you have room in your bench to afford stashing Bateman for a week (due to the Ravens' bye in W8), then consider doing so before fantasy GMs catch up to what's coming and snatch him from your wire. Bateman might be putting weekly WR2 finishes as soon as we hit double-digit weeks in less than a month.
