BALLER MOVE: Add in All Leagues
OWNED IN: 18% of Leagues
ANALYSIS: Seattle Seahawks running back Rashaad Penny had a breakout performance in Week 12 against the Eagles, carrying the ball 14 times for 129 yards and a touchdown. It was a season-high in carries for Penny and the first time he'd topped 65 yards from scrimmage in a game this year.
Penny received his extra opportunities thanks to a pair of fumbles that involved Chris Carson. Carson fumbled for the seventh time of the year on one play and on another play, he had a botched handoff with Russell Wilson that caused another fumble, though it was credited to Wilson. After those two miscues on Sunday, it was the Penny show.
Carson has had a fantastic year from every standpoint other than the fumbling issues. But Penny has actually been more effective on a per-carry basis this year, averaging 5.9 yards per carry compared with Carson's 4.2. Penny logged a season-high 30 offensive snaps in Week 12, just five fewer than Carson. In their previous game, Carson out-snapped Penny 71 to 3.
While Penny is trending in the right direction and looks like he clearly deserves a more significant chunk of the carries going forward, Carson is still the projected lead back for now. Penny is worth adding in all fantasy leagues. If he can earn 40% of the carries, he'll be worthy of RB2 or flex consideration in this strong offense and if he overtakes Carson down the stretch, he has league winner potential upside.
