BALLER MOVE: Start in 10+ Team Leagues
POSITIONAL VALUE: RB2
ANALYSIS: In 2023, Rachaad White turned out to be a steal for those who rolled the dice on him. Operating as the Buccaneers’ workhorse, White’s 336 touches were second-most in the NFL and only three shy of the lead held by Christian McCaffrey. The Bucs’ back finished with 1,539 total yards from scrimmage, which was good to tie for seventh-most in the league.
The volume resulted in some excellent returns, though White’s efficiency (or lack thereof) can’t be ignored. Yes, in 2023 he was given 272 rushing attempts, tied (with CMC) for second-most in the league. However, White still ended up 10 yards short of his first 1,000-yard season. That may improve in 2024, as one of the goals of new offensive coordinator Liam Coen is to diversify blocking schemes in order to complicate things for defenses. That, in turn, should lead to a more productive ground attack.
Tampa kicks off the 2024 season facing the Washington Commanders. In 2023, the Commanders were one of two defenses that allowed more than 100 rushing yards AND 40 receiving yards per game to running backs. Bucky Irving has been getting talked up through the preseason but White should still open as the feature back and get off to a good start against Washington on September 8. He can be locked in as an RB2 with RB1 upside in Week 1.
