Pujols, Machado, Donaldson And Fielder Make Up AL Sluggers For Home Run Derby

The American League representatives in Monday’s MLB Home Run Derby will be Manny Machado, Josh Donaldson, Prince Fielder and Albert Pujols.

It will be the fourth time Pujols competes in a Home Run Derby. Monday will be his first try as an Anaheim Angel (thrice he participated as a member of the St. Louis Cardinals). Despite reaching the semifinals three times, the three-time MVP never won a Home Run Derby. This one will be his last.

"I'm going to give it one last chance," Pujols told ESPN.com. "The good thing with Major League Baseball is they allow us to bring our kids onto the field on practice day so they'll be able to enjoy that. They'll have a great time and meet the players they get to watch every day."

Machado will represent the Baltimore Orioles with his 19 HR while Donaldson will represent the Toronto Jays with his 21 HR.

Prince Fielder has won the event before. Monday will be the first time he represents the Texas Rangers with his 13 HR.

Each hitter will have five minutes to nail as many homers as possible, according to MLB.com. They can stop the clock in the final minute by hitting a homer -- it'll start again with the next pitch -- and earn a bonus minute by hitting a pair of homers 420 feet in their turn, and an extra 30 seconds for a 475-foot bomb.

Another new wrinkle in the Derby is that all eight hitters will be in a bracket. It won’t be AL vs NL. Every man will be representing themselves on Monday. It could be NL vs. NL or AL vs. AL in the finals.
