After undergoing surgery on Monday to fix a torn labrum in his right shoulder, it was announced that Texas Rangers infielder Jurickson Profar will miss the entire 2015 Major League Baseball season. Profar also missed the entire 2014 campaign with a similar shoulder injury, and will require nine months of rehab for this specific procedure.
The news serves as a crushing blow to Profar and to a Rangers team that is trying to rebound from a very disappointing 2014 season marred by injuries. Texas had the most injuries in all of baseball in ‘14, which helped them set a new Major League record for the most players used in one season.
This one undoubtedly hurts a little extra, considering Profar has been ranked as one of the top young prospects in all of baseball over the past few years. Profar just can’t seem to stay healthy at this early juncture in his career. In 2013 as a 20-year-old, Profar played in 85 games, leading to a .234/.308/.336 line with 6 HR and 26 RBI. The 22-year-old is also known for his exceptional defense, being able to play shortstop and second base very effectively. He was expected to compete for the starting job at second, but it now appears that spot will end up going to second-year man Rougned Odor.
