This week, we're at Augusta National Golf Club for the 87th edition of The Masters. Not only have some of the best players we see week-in, week-out on the PGA Tour gotten the invite to Augusta, but 2o23 also marks the first Masters iteration to include golfers from the Saudi-backed LIV Tour. This convergence of talent from two different tours will only serve to increase the prestige of these Major Championships, and I can guarantee that there will be some storylines (and hopefully some juicy weekend pairings), as the week unfolds. I and the entire Rotoballer PGA staff have put out 1,000s of words on the course, key stats, and field this week, so this article won't be focused on the minutiae of projecting outright winners or DFS pivot plays. Justin Rose MORE than 3.5 Birdies or Better

First and foremost, there is a bit of uncertainty surrounding the afternoon wave in Round 2. According to reports from Daniel Field Airport in Augusta (via WindFinder), there is a possibility of sustained winds in the 15-18 mph range and gusts from 25-30 mph starting around 3 pm. If you've been gambling on golf for any amount of time, you'll know just how finicky wind projections can be, but as I sit here Thursday night, the potential of half the field playing in these types of conditions certainly gives me pause when projecting their viability in these prop markets.

Justin Rose, however, will not have to worry about these uncertainties, as he goes off in one of the first groups on the course Friday morning (9:38 am), and will likely benefit from some overnight showers keeping the golf course soft and receptive. With a win at Pebble Beach this past February, as well as a T6 at last month's PLAYERS Championship, Rose was one of my favorite sleepers of the week pre-tournament, and with four birdies and an eagle on Thursday, the wily Englishman was able to comfortably beat both the field scoring average and the O3.5 despite failing to birdie on 3 of the 5 easiest holes on the course (3, 8, and 15).

Including today's performance, Rose has now gained over 11 shots putting on Augusta's greens over his last seven rounds, and came into this week ranking inside the top 15 in SG: APP, GIR %, and Par 5 Scoring. The 42-year-old has clearly found something formidable in his game, and I suspect his comfort around Augusta National will keep him near the top of the leaderboard far longer than most casual fans would expect. He's in a prime position tomorrow morning to keep up the momentum and claim a coveted tee time late on Saturday afternoon.

Collin Morikawa MORE than 11.0 Fairways Hitt

With softer conditions aiding the already generous fairways around Augusta National, the field was able to hit a whopping 76% of its fairways on Thursday, and an insane 28/86 players missed two fairways or less. I, therefore, have no issue going right back to the well with Collin Morikawa's driver in Round 2. Like Rose, Collin gets to go out in the friendlier of the two waves tomorrow (9:48 am), and I don't anticipate the course firming up one bit with overnight showers in the forecast.

Collin himself breezed by the O10.5 we played in Round 1, and the two fairways he did miss were a combined 2-3 yards away from finding the short grass. Morikawa is as confident with the driver as I've seen him in some time, and these course conditions are about as conducive to driving accuracy as you'll ever find on the PGA Tour. I'm more than confident he can repeat the trick tomorrow morning.

Scottie Scheffler LESS than 69.5 Strokes

Perhaps I'm clouded by the bias of a 10-1 outright ticket on Scottie Scheffler, but if he can card a four-under 68 with the way he putted today, I can't fathom how this line made it all the way to 69.5. Scheffler gained a whopping 7.88 shots from tee-to-green this afternoon, and if it weren't for somebody named "Jon Rahm," he would have beaten the next-best player in that category by three shots.

As someone who watched every single shot of Scottie's round today, I can confidently say that I've never seen a ball-striking round quite like it. Scheffler gave himself 11 birdie looks from inside 12 feet and somehow only cashed in on three of them. Throw in a three-foot miss for par on the 11th hole, and you have one of the more disappointing four-under rounds you'll ever see at The Masters. Tomorrow, Scottie gets another crack in a softer Augusta National, and in the calmer morning conditions, I wouldn't be at all surprised to see a similar ball-striking display.

The putter isn't going to stay dormant for long, and when it does show up to the party, I would not want to have money on the other side.
