Welcome to our PrizePicks MLB DFS prop picks for Tuesday, August 8, 2023. The 2023 MLB season is underway here at RotoBaller, and we have you covered with some terrific plays from our friends over at PrizePicks.
PrizePicks is a great DFS fantasy picks site where you can choose to select plays in terms of fantasy points or single stats. The goal is to build a 2-player, 3-player, 4-player, or 5-player entry and then select whether or not you want to play for the power play or the flex play. On the power play, you will need to be correct on each of your selections to win, and on the flex play, you will have a little more wiggle room for a chance to win some money back. At PrizePicks, you're not playing against other people, you're just playing against the projections, and the guys at PrizePicks have worked hard to give you really attractive opportunities to make some money.
Announcement: We have two awesome new Props Optimizers for the MLB, NBA, NFL, NHL, and NCAA! The PrizePicks Optimizer and Prop Bets Optimizer are both available in our new Props Premium Package, which includes exclusive access to RotoBaller's VIP Discord chat rooms for props and betting.
PrizePicks Over/Under DFS Props Contests
PrizePicks has two types of games. The first type of game is known as Fantasy Score, which consists of selecting various players and trying to determine if they will go over or under their projected fantasy points in a game.
The second game is known as Single Stat. For the MLB, Single Stat consists of pitcher strikeout props in which you determine if the pitcher in question will go over or under their projected strikeout total.
You can mix and match players from different types of games in your entry or select all of your plays from the same type of game. Once you have selected your players and props, you can choose the aforementioned flex play or power play option. Let's see what the board offers today!

Yusei Kikuchi less than 5.5 strikeouts
Yusei Kikuchi has eclipsed this total in just two of his previous five matchups and has a tremendously difficult matchup in terms of strikeout potential against the Guardians tonight. Over the previous three weeks, Cleveland is posting a ridiculous 13.8% K-rate vs. southpaws across 189 plate appearances, which is ranked first in baseball over that span. Kikuchi will also be on the road in this one where his K/9 rate takes a 1.6 hit per nine innings compared to playing in the Rogers Centre.
Yonny Chirinos more than 3.5 strikoeuts
We are going back to Pittsburgh to attack the Pirates even after Spencer Strider let us down in a big way last night. Over the previous three weeks, the Pirates are posting the sixth-highest K-rate in baseball with a rate of 27.2%. Yonny Chirinos, in his most recent start, was able to mow down five Angels while allowing three earned runs in five innings pitched. He should see a similar workload in this one against a weaker offense, which should allow to him hit the four-strikeout mark.
Carlos Carrasco less than 4.0 strikeouts
Carlos Carrasco has had a very forgettable 2023 season in which he has posted a 6.60 ERA and has only managed to eclipse this total in three starts. The matchup will not get any easier in this one as the Cubs are posting just an 18.8% K-rate vs. right-handers over the previous three weeks, which is ranked the third-best in baseball over that span. They are also posting a wRC+ mark of 162 over this span, which is ranked the best in baseball. Quite frankly, Carrasco will be in a very tough spot here and has a high probability of getting shelled.
Logan Gilbert less than 5.5 strikeouts
This is a tad risky as Logan Gilbert is a solid pitcher and is capable of getting more than 5.5 strikeouts. However, he has failed to eclipse this total in each of his previous four starts and in eight of his previous 10 starts. He will be up against the Padres tonight, who are posting the second-best K rate vs. right-handers over the previous three weeks with a rate of 17.9%.
They are also posting a solid 9.7% walk rate and a wRC+ mark of 116 over that same span, so Gilbert could certainly find some trouble in this one. He will also be at home where he has posted a 4.66 ERA compared to a 3.22 ERA on the road.
