Welcome to our PrizePicks MLB DFS prop picks for Friday, May 12, 2023. The 2023 MLB season is underway here at RotoBaller, and we have you covered with some terrific plays from our friends over at PrizePicks.
PrizePicks is a great DFS fantasy picks site where you can choose to select plays in terms of fantasy points or single stats. The goal is to build a 2-player, 3-player, 4-player, or 5-player entry and then select whether or not you want to play for the power play or the flex play. On the power play, you will need to be correct on each of your selections to win, and on the flex play, you will have a little more wiggle room for a chance to win some money back. At PrizePicks, you're not playing against other people, you're just playing against the projections, and the guys at PrizePicks have worked hard to give you really attractive opportunities to make some money.
Announcement: We have two awesome new Props Optimizers for MLB, NBA, NFL, NHL and NCAA! The PrizePicks Optimizer and Prop Bets Optimizer are both available in our new Props Premium Package, which includes exclusive access to RotoBaller's VIP Discord chat rooms for props and betting.
PrizePicks Over/Under DFS Props Contests
PrizePicks has two types of games. The first type of game is known as Fantasy Score, which consists of selecting various players and trying to determine if they will go over or under their projected fantasy points in a game.
The second game is known as Single Stat. For the MLB, Single Stat consists of pitcher strikeout props in which you determine if the pitcher in question will go over or under their projected strikeout total.
You can mix and match players from different types of games in your entry or select all of your plays from the same type of game. Once you have selected your players and props, you can choose the aforementioned flex play or power play option. Let's see what the board offers today!

Sonny Gray more than 6.5 strikeouts
Gray has been on a roll in terms of strikeouts as he has struck out at least seven in three of his previous four starts. He also managed to mow down six Guardians in his most recent start, which is no easy feat as they are currently posting the fourth-lowest K rate vs. right-handers on the season.
Tonight, he will be up against the Cubs, who are posting the seventh-highest K rate vs. righties over the previous seven days while pairing that with a sub-100 wRC+ mark. It should also be noted that this is currently set to +100 on some books. It is very feasible that this number could drop to 6.0, making waiting on it a good idea.
Spencer Strider more than 8.5 strikeouts
Strider is entering that territory where any single-digit K prop needs to be played for the over. He has struck out at least nine in six of his seven starts this season. While he will be up against a loaded offense in Toronto tonight, they have been posting a K rate over the previous two weeks that ranks in the bottom half of the league against right-handers.
Drew Smyly more than 4.5 strikeouts
This play will be a bit risky, but the matchup is as good as it gets for Smyly. Although he has struck out five or more in just three starts this season, he will be up against a Minnesota offense that has been getting mauled by southpaws. Over the previous two weeks, the Twins have posted the highest K rate (31.6%) vs. lefties while also posting a lackluster 74 wRC+ mark.
Smyly has shown the ability to get hot, as noted by his seven-strikeout performance against Seattle and his 10-strikeout performance against the Dodgers. That could certainly be the case tonight in this matchup with the Twins.
Luis Robert Jr. more than 6.5 hitter fantasy score
We are getting a very low number here on a guy that is absolutely scorching hot. Over the previous seven days, Robert has posted a 1.381 OPS with three bombs. He will be up against an unknown quantity in J.P. France; however, France has allowed a .273 BAA to the 12 right-handed hitters he has faced thus far. The Astros' pen has also started coming back to earth recently as they have posted a 3.62 ERA over the previous 10 games.
