Welcome to our PrizePicks MLB DFS prop picks for Friday, August 18, 2023. The 2023 MLB season is underway here at RotoBaller, and we have you covered with some terrific plays from our friends over at PrizePicks.
PrizePicks is a great DFS fantasy picks site where you can choose to select plays in terms of fantasy points or single stats. The goal is to build a 2-player, 3-player, 4-player, or 5-player entry and then select whether or not you want to play for the power play or the flex play. On the power play, you will need to be correct on each of your selections to win, and on the flex play, you will have a little more wiggle room for a chance to win some money back. At PrizePicks, you're not playing against other people, you're just playing against the projections, and the guys at PrizePicks have worked hard to give you really attractive opportunities to make some money.
Announcement: We have two awesome new Props Optimizers for the MLB, NBA, NFL, NHL, and NCAA! The PrizePicks Optimizer and Prop Bets Optimizer are both available in our new Props Premium Package, which includes exclusive access to RotoBaller's VIP Discord chat rooms for props and betting.
PrizePicks Over/Under DFS Props Contests
PrizePicks has two types of games. The first type of game is known as Fantasy Score, which consists of selecting various players and trying to determine if they will go over or under their projected fantasy points in a game.
The second game is known as Single Stat. For the MLB, Single Stat consists of pitcher strikeout props in which you determine if the pitcher in question will go over or under their projected strikeout total.
You can mix and match players from different types of games in your entry or select all of your plays from the same type of game. Once you have selected your players and props, you can choose the aforementioned flex play or power play option. Let's see what the board offers today!

Jameson Taillon less than 5.0 strikeouts
Jameson Taillon will be up against the Royals, who have been GOOD against right-handed pitchers recently. Over the previous three weeks, they are posting the second-lowest K rate vs. right-handers with a rate of just 17.8% while pairing that with a superb 135 wRC+ mark. They also had a tremendous series against good Mariners pitching where Logan Gilbert, Luis Castillo, and George Kirby managed to strike out just 10 batters between their combined 17 1/3 innings pitched. Taillon has failed to eclipse this total in five of his previous seven starts as well.
Andrew Heaney less than 6.0 strikeouts
Andrew Heaney will be up against the Brewers tonight, who at one point struggled mightily vs. left-handers. But they are now posting the fourth-lowest K rate (17.1%) against them over the previous three weeks. They are also posting a very respectable wRC+ mark of 119 over that same span while pairing that with a solid 8.6% walk rate. Heaney has failed to eclipse six strikeouts in six of his previous seven starts and has even failed to reach five strikeouts in those six starts.
Spencer Strider more than 8.0 strikeouts
We have not seen Spencer Strider this low in some time and that is likely due to the fact that he has only struck out nine batters over his previous 9 2/3 innings pitched. That being said, he has eclipsed this number in eight of his previous 10 starts and will be facing a scuffling Giants offense this evening at home where he has posted a 15.1 K/9 compared to a 12.8 mark on the road. Over the previous three weeks, the Giants have posted a middling K rate vs. right-handers with a rate of nearly 23% and have coupled this with a lackluster wRC+ mark of just 62. Strider should be in great shape tonight.
Luis Medina more than 5.0 strikeouts
Luis Medina has eclipsed this total in four of his previous six starts and has a relatively solid matchup in terms of strikeout potential against the Orioles tonight. Over the previous three weeks, Baltimore has posted the ninth-highest K rate vs. right-handers with a rate of 24%. The risk here is obviously the Orioles' offense as they have posted a 100 wRC+ mark over that same three-week span, so definitely tread lightly.
