Welcome to our PrizePicks MLB DFS prop picks for Friday, August 11, 2023. The 2023 MLB season is underway here at RotoBaller, and we have you covered with some terrific plays from our friends over at PrizePicks.
PrizePicks is a great DFS fantasy picks site where you can choose to select plays in terms of fantasy points or single stats. The goal is to build a 2-player, 3-player, 4-player, or 5-player entry and then select whether or not you want to play for the power play or the flex play. On the power play, you will need to be correct on each of your selections to win, and on the flex play, you will have a little more wiggle room for a chance to win some money back. At PrizePicks, you're not playing against other people, you're just playing against the projections, and the guys at PrizePicks have worked hard to give you really attractive opportunities to make some money.
Announcement: We have two awesome new Props Optimizers for the MLB, NBA, NFL, NHL, and NCAA! The PrizePicks Optimizer and Prop Bets Optimizer are both available in our new Props Premium Package, which includes exclusive access to RotoBaller's VIP Discord chat rooms for props and betting.
PrizePicks Over/Under DFS Props Contests
PrizePicks has two types of games. The first type of game is known as Fantasy Score, which consists of selecting various players and trying to determine if they will go over or under their projected fantasy points in a game.
The second game is known as Single Stat. For the MLB, Single Stat consists of pitcher strikeout props in which you determine if the pitcher in question will go over or under their projected strikeout total.
You can mix and match players from different types of games in your entry or select all of your plays from the same type of game. Once you have selected your players and props, you can choose the aforementioned flex play or power play option. Let's see what the board offers today!

Aaron Civale less than 5.0 strikeouts
Aaron Civale has struck out more than five batters in just one of his previous eight starts and in just three total starts this season. He has a tremendously tough matchup tonight against his former team, the Guardians. They are posting the fourth-lowest K rate vs. right-handers over the previous three weeks with a rate of just 19.6%. This number is set a tad high and will likely creep down prior to the first pitch.
Andrew Abbott more than 5.0 strikeouts
Andrew Abbott has struck out six or more in seven of his 12 starts to begin his big league career. He has a relatively soft matchup against the Pirates tonight as they are posting the 12th-highest K rate against southpaws over the previous three weeks with a rate of 23.2%. They are also posting a measly 73 wRC+ mark over this same span and pairing that with a sub-8% walk rate, which should give Abbott some length here. We whiffed with Max Fried (another southpaw) the other night, but Abbott has better stuff and should be able to hit the mark here.
Chris Sale more than 5.0 strikeouts
This could get a tad dicey as the Tigers are posting just a 19.6% K rate vs. left-handers over the previous three weeks; however, they are also posting a walk rate of just 5.2% and a wRC+ mark of just 87 over that same span. Meanwhile, Chris Sale has struck out six or more batters in four of his previous five starts and in eight total starts this season.
Tarik Skubal more than 5.5 strikeouts
Tarik Skubal has looked very sharp in two of his previous three starts where he struck out 15 batters across 10 1/3 innings pitched against the Rays and Giants, respectively. Tonight, he will be up against the Red Sox, who have struggled mightily against left-handers in recent weeks.
Over the previous three weeks, Boston is posting the third-highest K rate against southpaws with a rate of nearly 30%. They are also struggling to put the ball in play, as noted by their 48 wRC+ mark, which they have paired with a lackluster 5.8% walk rate. Skubal should be able to do some damage against the lineup and get to the six-strikeout mark, all things considered.
