Predicting The Final Six NFL Head Coaching Hires Of The 2025 Offseason - Bears, Cowboys, Jaguars, Jets, Raiders, Saints

Seven NFL coaches were fired or not retained during or after the 2024 season, and six head jobs remain open after the New England Patriots hired former Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel. Head-coaching turnover has increased in recent years, as organizations are no longer giving coaches more than a few seasons to turn things around.

The Chicago Bears, Dallas Cowboys, Jacksonville Jaguars, New York Jets, Las Vegas Raiders, and New Orleans Saints are tasked with bringing in the "new man" for the job. Who will each franchise hire?

Chicago Bears - Mike McCarthy, Former Cowboys HC

Mike McCarthy did not have his contract renewed in Dallas following the 2024 campaign, but he might not be out of a job long. The 61-year-old has drawn plenty of criticism, but he has compiled a 174-112-2 record between his time with the Packers and Cowboys, and he has 11 playoff victories on his resume. This would not be the sexiest hire, but he could provide stability and a high floor to an organization that desperately needs it.

Dallas Cowboys - Kellen Moore, Eagles OC

Dallas has requested to interview Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore, and the potential hire makes plenty of sense. Moore spent three seasons in Dallas as a backup quarterback before working on its staff for five seasons. Jerry Jones is unlikely to hire someone who wants to do things their way, and Moore brings familiarity and youth to the head-coaching role, something Jones likely finds attractive.

Jacksonville Jaguars - Liam Coen, Buccaneers OC

Buccaneers offensive coordinator Liam Coen spent the 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2022 seasons with the Los Angeles Rams under Sean McVay. We’ve seen several franchises pluck young candidates from the McVay tree, and the 39-year-old Coen could be next in line. After leading Tampa Bay to the No. 3 total offense in 2024, Jaguars general manager Trent Baakle is likely interested in bringing him in to work with Trevor Lawrence.

New York Jets - Aaron Glenn, Lions DC

The Robert Saleh era was defined by disappointing seasons, which has been a theme for the Jets during most of the 21st century. Aaron Glenn reportedly prefers the Jets’ job if he has his choice, which makes sense considering the building blocks including Quinnen Williams and Sauce Gardner on the defensive roster. If the Jets decide to hire another defensive coach, the offensive coordinator hire will be highly-important. New York had a championship-level defense in 2023.

Las Vegas Raiders - Ben Johnson, Lions OC

Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson has seemingly been the shining star of the last three coaching cycles, but he has opted to stay with Detroit in each of the last two offseasons. This year could be different, as future Hall-of-Fame quarterback and minority Raiders owner Tom Brady is reportedly luring Johnson to the Sin City. Johnson has had a significant hand in Detroit’s turnaround, but it will be interesting to see how his time in Las Vegas would play out without an obvious QB of the future on the roster.

New Orleans Saints - Todd Monken, Ravens OC

The Saints have been a middling franchise since Drew Brees was winding down his NFL career, and the Dennis Allen era produced zero trips to the postseason. After leading Georgia’s offense to two National Championships, Todd Monken has taken the Baltimore Ravens’ offense to the next level. He hasn’t been pointed out as one of the hottest candidates in this cycle, but his offensive creativity could do wonders for New Orleans, who has a few weapons but is missing a franchise QB.
