Best Choices
Andrew Abbott, Cincinnati Reds
Yahoo: 51%; ESPN: 22%
Abbott's had a solid start to the season. Through 96 innings, he's 8-6 with a 3.28 ERA, 1.20 WHIP, and 74:36 K/BB ratio. He's also been really effective over his last three starts, allowing just five runs in 17 innings.

Not only has he been excellent as of late; he's set for two favorable matchups in Week 15. As of now, he's lined up to face the Rockies and the Marlins -- both at home. Those two teams currently rank last and second-to-last in road OPS, respectively. This is an incredibly promising sign, and it should alleviate some potential fears that come with making two starts at Great American Ballpark. While it's extremely hitter-friendly, Abbott has handled GABP quite well. He's posted a 3.32 ERA through seven starts there. Overall, this is a no-brainer, if he's available in your league.
Ben Lively, Cleveland Guardians
Yahoo: 58%; ESPN: 27%
Lively has been impressive in 2024, posting a 3.14 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, and 67/22 K/BB, through 77 1/3 innings. He's also got two pretty favorable matchups coming up. The Tigers, who he'll likely face on Tuesday, rank #23 against right-handed pitching (.674 OPS). The Rays, who he should be facing on Sunday, rank #25 (.667 OPS). Considering this mix of talented pitcher and underwhelming offenses, and Lively is another great option for Week 16.
If there is a personification of the 2024 Guardians it’s Ben Lively.
A 32 year old whose Major League career was average at best, is suddenly pitching at an All Star level.
Breakout years at 32 years old only happen in Hollywood. And apparently now, Cleveland.

Next-Best Choices
Mitchell Parker, Washington Nationals
Yahoo: 32%; ESPN: 13%
Rookie Mitchell Parker has a 3.61 ERA, 1.10 WHIP, and 68:18 K/BB, through his first 84 2/3 MLB innings. Lately, he hasn't been as solid, allowing 11 runs over his last 17 innings. But he's nonetheless been an effective starter.
Parker's matchups are certainly favorable. First, he'll face the Cardinals, who have the second-worst OPS versus lefties (.624). It won't get any harder for him when he takes on the Brewers, who rank #22 in OPS versus lefties (.679). Parker has been a solid pitcher all year, and has what it takes to bounce back in Week 16, especially with these matchups.

Frankie Montas, Cincinnati Reds
Yahoo: 17%; ESPN: 9%
Like Andrew Abbott, Montas is another Reds pitcher who should benefit from facing the Rockies and Marlins. He's also been effective over his last three starts, allowing just five runs in 17 innings (again, just like Abbott). For him, I'll add that the Marlins have the second-worst OPS against righties (.645), and the Rockies rank just #17 (.690). Overall, Montas is capable of producing two quality outings next week. He's widely available, so you shouldn't have a problem getting your hands on him.

Deeper Choices
Christian Scott, New York Mets
Yahoo: 24%; ESPN: 7%
Scott didn't look great in his first start back from Triple-A, allowing four runs over 5 2/3 innings, against the Nationals. However, he's still been productive at the big-league level. Stop me if you've heard this before, but Scott's matchups are pretty mouthwatering. The Pirates rank #28 in OPS against righties (.655), and the Rockies' are #17 (.690). Expect Scott to have two pretty good starts in Week 16. He's not the most enticing option, but he should definitely be able to hold his own.
"I'm grateful that Carlos [Mendoza] gave me the opportunity right there to go out and try to finish the 6th. I let him down today, but hopefully the next time he gives us the opportunity, I'll be able to come up"
