Zack Gelof Hits Two Homers Versus Nationals
Zack Gelof was 4-for-5 with two solo home runs against the Washington Nationals on Sunday. Gelof's homers came in the first and fifth frames despite Oakland losing 8-7. The 23-year-old rookie has blasted eight home runs in 25 games. He's also shown some speed on the base path swiping six bags. Since making his MLB debut against Minnesota on July 14th, Gelof is slashing .281/.343/.978 in 96 trips to the batter's box this season.

Zack Gelof To Begin Rehab Assignment Next Week
Zack Gelof (wrist) appears to be inching closer to a return to the field. Gelof hasn't played at all this season after suffering a right wrist injury during spring training. As a result, Gelof underwent surgery, which has kept him sidelined until now. Athletics manager Mark Kotsay said Gelof could begin a rehab assignment as early as next Tuesday. The expectation is Gelof is going to need around 35-40 at-bats before returning to the A's roster. That means, Gelof will probably be on a rehab assignment for around two weeks. Fantasy managers should expect him back in the fold around mid-May. Until then, Luis Urias figures to be the primary option at second base.

Zack Gelof, Michel Otanez Placed On Injured List
Zack Gelof (hand) and relief pitcher Michel Otanez (shoulder) were both officially placed on the injured list. Neither of these come as a surprise, with Gelof undergoing surgery to repair a broken hamate bone earlier this week. He's likely to be held out for six to eight weeks and will be a risky stash for fantasy purposes. Returning from a fractured hamate bone has been tricky for hitters looking to regain their power in the past. Otanez is dealing with a right shoulder impingement, and there is no current timetable for his return. When healthy, he will be a high-leverage option out of the bullpen to bridge the gap to Mason Miller in the ninth.

Zack Gelof Has Successful Surgery On Monday
Zack Gelof (hand) had successful surgery on his right hamate bone in Los Angeles on Monday. Dr. Steven Shin performed the procedure on Gelof's right wrist, and the second baseman will start his rehab in West Sacramento this week. With the 25-year-old set to open the regular season on the injured list and miss six to eight weeks, prospect Max Muncy has made the Opening Day roster for the A's and should see regular playing time at the keystone. In his first full season in the big leagues in 2024, Gelof struggled, hitting just .211 (105-for-497) with 17 homers, 49 RBI, 25 stolen bases and a league-leading 188 strikeouts in 138 games played. Now that he'll miss the first month of the season, he's likely only worth stashing in AL-only and dynasty formats. Muncy has above-average power and speed and could stick around as a utility infielder for the A's once Gelof returns.

Zack Gelof To Undergo Hand Surgery
Zack Gelof (hand) is unfortunately going to start the season on the injured list. Gelof will undergo surgery to repair a hamate bone fracture in his right hand. The A's haven't given a timetable on Gelof, but often times players with this procedure miss close to two months. This is obviously a frustrating blow to the A's considering Gelof is a promising young infielder. The 25-year-old figures to be the primary option at second base once he's ready to play again. In the meantime, Luis Urias is likely to see a majority of the starts over at second base.
