Zach Britton Flashes Old Form As Spring Concludes
6 years agoThe New York Yankees signed reliever Zach Britton to a three-year contract this offseason after acquiring him via trade from the Orioles last July. While he posted a 2.88 ERA in 25 games for the club, he was still a far cry from his best years in Baltimore, before an Achilles injury. This Spring, however, Britton has looked as good as any point since the injury, allowing zero runs in 8 1/3 innings, allowing just three hits and striking out five. His progress is especially encouraging as Dellin Betances begins the season on the IL with an impingement in his right shoulder. Alongside newly-signed Adam Ottavino, Britton and closer Aroldis Chapman will spearhead this bullpen which is expected to play a significant role in getting the Yankees back to the postseason.
