Zach Thompson Pitches Five Good Innings On Saturday
3 years agoMiami Marlins rookie starting pitcher Zach Thompson pitched well on Saturday but was pulled after five innings. In those five innings, he allowed just two runs on three hits and one walk, striking out three. Thompson threw just 73 pitches (48 strikes) and was throwing well before being lifted for no real reason except that Don Mattingly is incapable of properly handling a pitching staff. Even the Marlins broadcast team showed displeasure at Mattingly's handling of the team in this one. It's been a long season, and Mattingly was already extended for next season. Thompson, meanwhile, has been great as a 27-year-old rookie, he'll take a 2.97 ERA into his next start.
