Zach Penrod Dealing With Elbow Soreness
17 seconds agoBoston Red Sox left-hander Zach Penrod (elbow) is dealing with left-elbow soreness in camp and has gone for an MRI exam. This could be why the Red Sox signed veteran left-handed reliever Matt Moore to a minor-league deal on Thursday that includes an invitation to spring training. The 27-year-old Penrod made his major-league debut for the BoSox last year and had a 2.25 ERA (5.42 FIP) and 1.75 WHIP with four walks and three strikeouts in four innings out of the bullpen. Penrod was fortunate to have an ERA under 3.00 in his limited work in the big leagues last year. Before getting called up, he had a 4.16 ERA and 1.31 WHIP with a 93:33 K:BB in 62 2/3 innings over 22 appearances (12 starts) with Double-A Portland and Triple-A Worcester. Penrod is competing for a spot in the team's Opening Day bullpen at spring training.
