Zach Britton Blows Save In Extra Innings
6 years agoAfter New York Yankees outfielder Giancarlo Stanton delivered a two-run home run to put the Yankees ahead Tuesday night in Chicago, manager Aaron Boone opted for Zach Britton to record the save. Coming off a pair of scoreless appearances at Fenway Park, the 30-year-old recorded two outs before surrendering a game-tying two-run home run to Jose Abreu. The two runs allowed now mean Britton has allowed three runs in 4 2/3 innings with the Yankees after closing out his stint with the Orioles on eight scoreless innings. More importantly, his save opportunity could be a sign of Aaron Boone’s trust in him over other top relievers in the staff on any potential night that team closer Aroldis Chapman may not be able to pitch.
