Zach Britton Being Used In Seventh Inning
6 years agoNew York Yankees reliever Zach Britton pitched a scoreless inning on Sunday against the Boston Red Sox, but it wasn't in a setup role. Britton came into the game in the seventh inning, following fellow reliever David Robertson, who pitched in the sixth. When the Yankees acquired Britton from the Baltimore Orioles it was expected that he'd claim the setup man role in the eighth, but so far that hasn't been quite the case. Instead, manager Aaron Boone has been going with a Robertson-Britton-Dellin Betances-Aroldis Chapman combination in potential save situations like Sunday. Of course, with so many talented arms in the Yankee bullpen, Britton will have chances to pitch the eighth as well as the ninth in certain situations, but it's worth noting that Betances seems to be holding the setup role for now.
