4 years agoArizona Diamondbacks starting pitcher Zac Gallen (forearm) was placed on the 10-day Injured List on Thursday. Gallen suffered a hairline fracture in his throwing arm while taking batting practice- and is still expected to miss at least the first month of the season. Arizona recalled right-hander Riley Smith in a corresponding move Thursday. Fantasy managers who drafted and stashed Gallen will have to wait a bit to see the return on their investments, though it could be promising if he comes back healthy, given his 2.78 ERA and 178 strikeouts in 152 career innings pitched. In the meantime, southpaw Taylor Widener will fill Gallen's spot in the rotation after a promising spring that saw him fan 19 batters compared to just three walks.--Tim Capurso
