Yusei Kikuchi Not Sharp In Season Debut
4 years agoSeattle Mariners starting pitcher Yusei Kikuchi gave up five runs on five hits and four walks through 3 2/3 innings against the Astros on Sunday. The Astros are a tough lineup to face, but the walks were uncharacteristic for Kikuchi, who had a 2.8 BB/9 in 2019. There was a lot of hype surrounding Kikuchi when he signed with the Mariners in 2019 but the actual results were very underwhelming. Kikuchi finished the year with a 5.46 ERA, 1.51 WHIP and only 6.5 K/9. He doesn't offer much upside and is pitching for an offense who likely won't provide much run support in 2020. Kikuchi is set to take on the Athletics on Saturday and shouldn't be picked up for that start.
