Yoshinobu Yamamoto Receiving Interest From Roughly Half Of MLB Teams
12 months agoFree agent pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto is reportedly receiving interest from roughly half of Major League Baseball clubs. The report is hardly a surprise considering Yamamoto is the biggest international free agent since his countryman Shohei Ohtani prior to the 2018 season. The 25-year-old right-hander is a two-time NPB MVP and is coming off a sparkling 1.21 ERA across 23 games with Orix in the 2023 season. Yamamoto's market is reportedly stretching from deep-pocketed teams such as the Dodgers, Mets, and Yankees but also some smaller-market clubs in the D-backs and Tigers. The upcoming winter meetings will be a good chance for the recently-posted right-hander to meet with interested clubs, if he's so inclined, as his market should intensify in the coming days. His contract is expected to blow past the $200 million mark given the widespread interest.
